Maybe the link to the original thread and not the specific post will work?

I'm going with stupid. If that water was only a few inches higher it would have pushed the bus right over. I think the water was just low enough to only exert pressure on the wheels.....still that is way too close for comfort and the water level could have risen without warning.

Back in my home country many years ago there was a very strong typhoon that flooded a lot of the roads we passed (I was probably in 5th or 6th grade taking our large school bus home). The water was deeper than what these guys tried but it was not running water (stagnant/pooled). Water came up to almost the cabin floor, but we made it through. Lots of vehicles didn't and stalled with the water creeping up halfway up the door/window glass.

That's what I was thinking. That was some kinda thrill ride just watching it. I thought the water was pushing on the body a little too much.

Maybe they'd done it a few times before. Kinda reminded me of those old westerns where they drove the cattle across the Rio Grande.

I wonder how many buses they have lost?
If the bus was empty they would be in trouble. Its probably got 10 ton of cargo in the bins to keep it from rolling.

Hey Diesel loving autocrossing grandpa, where is your sense of adventure? I would have thought that you would want a creek crossing like that as part of you next autocross track !!

What got me were the fellows who were hanging onto the back just waiting for the moment when they might have to jump ship.

In the other thread at Expedition Portal about this river crossing there is other footage at a lower water level taken from the other side of the river. In some of that footage, you can see the guys on the the back and top of the bus touching a cable that runs across the river above the top of the bus. Not sure of it's purpose but it could be the reason for the two guys on top of the bus in the higher water footage even though I can't see the cable in that footage.

Exactly what I was thinking. I assumed it was full of people though. Empty it would have been gone as soon as the water hit the body of the bus.

Last year we autocrossed at the Terre Haute Airport in a deluge. The guys driving the E mod lotus seven replicas would hit one place on the track and the water would engulf the entire car drenching them since they had no top. It was amazing to see. Even more amazing they kept going. There was so much rain it washed away our locating chaulk marks and the course would change in certain sectinos each time since the corner workers could only guess where to re set the cones.

it sucked!
