Stop wondering and do some research. You clearly have no idea how school lunch programs work, what federal and state regulations they operate under, or even how much the schools are paying for milk and other lunch ingredients. Nobody "skims" from school lunch programs.

As to the OP, schools have been models of inefficiency for decades. If it concerns you, start with either the principal or the person in charge of you district's food service and get answers to your questions. You might be surprised to find that your school, or perhaps your Parent Teacher Organization might appreciate constructive criticism and ideas for improvement. If you're not willing to do that and only want to b!tch, get over it.

My school had like a CC the parents could put money on.

It worked great except instead of lunch we would buy chips and good stuff with it.

I used to take my lunch. I was very jealous of the kids who got to buy it. I think I was allowed to buy it on thanksgiving and christmas. I can still remember the taste of the school stuffing. It had too much sage in it. I still don't like sage in stuffing.

I'd get a sandwich of bologna, ham or chicken and an apple orange or bananna and bought the milk. The kids who got to bring twinkies and hostess cupcakes were very much envied!

I took it in a brown bag. Some of the kids got these fancy lunch boxes with Superman or Roy Rogers on them.....or howdy doody....I was really jealous of them too. Some kids even got soup in a thermos.....

We now understand the reason for your political beliefs Tom !!

A deep rooted unhappiness & jealousy for all these rich kids that had all this fancy stuff !!

It is sad that you have had to carry this burden all your life. I am sure there is now therapy for this condition, probably it has a name !!

Maybe we could start a support group on here for it !!

It sounds like there are a number of members that have similar issues !!

I can remember 10c lunches, a meat pie with sauce, finger bun & 1/2 a pint of flavored milk. The girls liked strawberry, they guys chocolate.
If a guy had strawberry, every one would call him a sissy !!

The original homophobia I guess.
These days the students at the local private grammar school typically get $20 a day for lunch!! I dont know what they do with the money! (maybe I do

If you are going to go into business, make sure your targeted market has the money to pay for the goods!!

I also remember .02 for milk. In the first grade we ate in our classroom, or so it seems. It also seemed like they stored the milk on the radiators.

We really didn't have any rich kids that I was aware of, but most families did not have 8 children either!

Coming up wanting things is a driving force I can identify with. Hostess Twinkies and Hostess chocolate cupcakes were right up there. My Brothers and I didn't have the metal lunch boxes either. (I seem to remember they were used as a swinging weapon at times. lol) Brown bagging in used paper bags from the grocery store was our way too, when not paying for the hot lunch program. The hot lunches were terrible in parochial grade school. The public school hot lunch was terrific from 7th grade on for me. Loved it! It was .35 cents, and I always paid .05 extra for extra mashed potatoes.

I thought the .02 milk was a low price at the time. If a half pint is selling for .50 in 2011, there has to be 'kickback' money in there from the purveyor to people on the school district board or district itself. It would surprise me if there weren't ongoing slimy deals nationwide.

The federal government subsidised our milk back then I am pretty sure.

The dairy lobby was strong.

I don't care, I still love milk.
