Can They Detect Irony?

Phoenix Arizona City Council Installs Metal Detectors

The new security measures, which include checks of bags, briefcases and purses, were recommended in the wake of the shooting at Rep. Gabrielle Giffords “Congress on Your Corner” event in Tucson on Jan. 8.

. . .

While other cities have considered using metal detectors, most have been deterred by the cost of purchasing and staffing them, as well as the possibility that residents attending meetings might be intimidated

In a state that prides itself on nearly unmatched support of 2nd Amendment rights, this illustrates the dilemna of a well armed public.

As long as they bring their firearms to work I don't see what they have to worry about.

Will the City Council be paying for 24-hr. armed security for the council members? Your AZ wackos would just get them in the parking lot otherwise....

Protecting them self from their own politics, how ironic.

OoH, ooh, ooh! I get it! A metal detector to detect the "iron"-y.

If that is true then we, as the public, should force these clowns to walk through a "meddle" detector!

About ten years ago some knucklehead drove a van loaded with fertilizer and diesel fuel into our courthouse at a grade level entrance hoping to blow it up. The bomb fizzled and all the kings horses and all the kings men have not been able to find the person responsible.

It is a half block from my building downtown.

Shortly after that they installed all these huge planters to stop folks from driving vehicles into the doors. They also restricted the entrances from the original eight to one which now has a full blown metal detector manned by two deputies at all times.

I am reminded every time I need to go over there for something and have to empty all my pockets out etc.

Its not what you would expect in sleepy Lafayette Indiana.
