Baghdad wants U.S. to pay $1 billion for damage to city...

Really? I suppose we'll just pull that out of our asses and UPS it over...

Take it off the aid that has been provided over the years.

I think it is a face saving way of asking for aid. So, the question is this. What do we do? More important, what will they do for it? If by giving them the money they will give us something else we want because it buys them some sort of credibility, it might not be a bad idea.

Think about this. If you are an addict or about to become one, doesn't it behoove me to give you a "payday advance" on your high times? After all, if you are weaned off the drugs, you are independent. As an addict, I get to tell you to go on your knees and "speak into the microphone" when I want you to.

It won't matter that government won't last for 18 months after we leave.

As soon as they repay (in oil at $25 a barrel) the entire amount that it cost the Us and allies to free them.
And toss in a couple hundred thousand each for every servive member KIA and wounded then MAYBE JUST MAYBE we will give you $1 Billion. ( Like a student loan $50 bucks a month for the next 300 years)

Ungrateful lot arent they! The USA & the coalition partners lost many good men liberating them. The bill has never been paid.
$1 million per KIA, would be a more reasonable figure. Probably as much for each injured.
Maybe they could send the bill to Bin Laden.

They never asked to be ‘liberated.’ The best thing to do is just leave, making no payments. The Green Zone embassy complex is worth easily a billion.

This is perhaps the most important point to me. Although Sadaam was a terrible murderous tyrant, there is no guarantee what they will end up with will be any good either.

We choose to say we "liberated" them but did we?

We certainly did rain destruction down upon them, killing hundreds of thousands, mostly innocent.

Imagine that anyone would disagree with US policy in the 'we had to destroy the city in order to save it' category.

Cheney thought we would be welcomed as liberators. He was wrong.
