Why American troops in Afghanistan shouldn't have to wear headscarves.
Why American troops in Afghanistan shouldn't have to wear headscarves.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2011/02/18/AR2011021802446.html And now with "other than"-heterosexuals serving openly are solders with X and Y chromosomes who happen to be gay/bi-sexual/try-sexual/quarter-sexual/transgendered/gender dismorphic to be denied the same civil rights that solders with two X chromosomes (bit*&es) enjoy, particularly when they just picked up a fabulous new scarf while shopping at the Kasbah? |

LMAO!!!
Does that include cross-dressers?! ![]() Corporal Klinger (Jamie Farr) in M*A*S*H* wore make up, lipstick, heels, and of course a scarf. He didn't shave his legs though! He was trying to get a 4F or Section 8, unlike today. LOL!

They dont respect women in that area of the world by choice. A female medic with an M9 pistol will stop the entire neighborhood when she draws it on a man who runs towards her. Is it from respect, or fear? I dont care, but, it was a culture shock to them anyways.
So, if a muslin's meeting with allah is arranged by a female with a pistol (commonly used for exicutions in their culture), do they still get their 21 virgins? That area of the world sucks. The American Military does not wear a uniform that allows any sort of comfort in the heat. You loose a lot of heat through your head. If a soldier's safe enough to remove their ACH, what kind of idiot would trap more heat with a scarf? Thats dangerous in the extreme temperatures found in that region. Our soldiers are not their women, and they will NOT be treated as such! ~Nate

In fact, I have a military issue "hot climate scarf" that I will send, along with a benny, to anyone. Only thing I ask in return is that you must walk 2 miles with a 45lb backpack or ruck sack (LIGHT combat load, including body armor, helmet, weapon, ammo, ifac, and water), in an area that's 120*F, in the mid day sun. Take picture after wearing scarf for the 2 miles. You have 35 min to make the 2 mile trip.

If you could make use of a greater level of comprehension than you’ve thus far exhibited it would be very clear from the previous postings that everyone is clearly aware that the present circumstances only apply to female solders. That is precisely why the point is being made; pharisaical though it might be an attempt to juxtapose the condition of female solders with other non-female solders who might desire to exhibit their own unique fashion "savoir faire"! |

A case of you come and liberate our country but you have to do it on our terms. You can pay for the privilege of making us have a safer life, a higher standard of living and freedom. We want your handouts but only on our terms.
I say tell them to go stick it!!! Our soldiers do not need to be hamstrung by medieval customs and practices. Time to burn the poppy plantations and get serious about getting rid of the Taliban. |

Um... I don't think a large number of the folks in Afghan or Iraq wanted us there in the first place. The folks in SA are letting us use their land as a base of operations so I would think it's a case of their house their rules.
I would prefer to see us pack up shop and come home but we are still addicted to oil so I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Before you know it, everyone will be required to attend sensitivity training classes so as not to say or do anything offensive to any other class, race or minority.
I'm a sensitive guy..... |

Already happening. We have mandatory diversity training every year, plus additional cultural sensitivity training based on the specific area we're traveling to before we deploy. It's not necessarily a bad thing. It's good to know (for example) that tipping a waiter in Japan is potentially seen as insulting.

Why would you put a scarf on solder? If it gets hot in the sun is that like baking it to get it to reflow?
Oh, he means soldier. What with all the juxtaposing and "hypocritically self righteous and condemnatory" commentary I got confused about the basic spelling of the object of the article (that is the definition of 'pharisaical', by the way, particularly apropos in this thread.) I only hope someone searching for electrical tips doesn't end up here. However, having worked with Martha McSally on active duty I can say that she is more self-aggrandizing and interested in her own agenda of "me first" than looking out for the interests of service men and women. This article is a re-hash of her claim to fame from over 15 years ago. As a professor at the Marshall school, her writing skills should be better. As a retired colonel and fighter pilot her speech should be more focused. She's extrapolating from a specific group of women whose specific mission is cultural engagement to the entire combat force - or a fairly gross generalization. She's also hardly an example of following orders - or even optional guidance of on the ground commanders - since she sued the Secretary of Defense while she was on active duty. From her own article: "Most of the U.S. servicewomen wearing headscarves are assigned to Female Engagement Teams (FETs), charged to reach out to local Afghan women and win their hearts and minds as part of the new counterinsurgency strategy. Wearing the hijab is thought to facilitate this access, since all Afghan women are expected to wear a headscarf when in public." |
