Chrysler either builds sound marketable cars with good durability or they will pass into history. Regardless of who owns them.
At present you could not get me to consider one of their cars. Unfortunatly I am not alone with this sentiment. I doubt they can survive long term with only their truck line. Adding a foreign car to the mix now is not much different to when they added simca to their line years ago. They still lost money. |

I do not know if they still build tanks etc. A few car producers have left the field in the past and survived doing other things. |

They owned SIMCA, which they bought in 1963 and then sold it about 20 years later to Peugeot. They also owned quite a bit of Sunbeam the English auto maker which they bought from Rootes in 1963. They sold the Plymouth Cricket in 1971 in the US and it was nothing more than a dolled up Hillman which was also a Rootes brand. I test drove a Cricket.... Slow, cramped and just sort of overall weird. It was not a success in the US.
Chrysler bought SIMCA in order to have a foothold in the European market just like FIAT bought Chrysler to have a foothold in the US market. Plymouth Baracuddas were big sellers in Europe during the middle and late 60's. They they merged with RENAULT which was not a wise thing to do. They also bought JEEP which was. They sold their Defense works many years ago. They needed to raise cash as the K-Car was not the smashing success they thought it would be. Then Mercedes bought them so Mercedes would have a way to recycle its' old platforms. If you buy a Dodge Charger today you will find a lot of 124 looking parts under it. And now they are owned by FIAT. Which brings us back to SIMCA, which was started by FIAT in 1934. I find that sort of odd.... FIAT started SIMCA, which was purchased by Chrysler and now FIAT owns Chrysler and SIMCA is long gone. |

The truck line is still a good one with the diesel engines but none of the cars interest me...except possibly the fiat 500.
