Chevette or Injection pump Guru help please
I am in need of some info on this Pump if possible, a Service manual or Schematic of how it looks inside, how to adjust it etc. Any Ideas?
It is on a Isuzu inline 4 from a Chevette Mid 80's we were told. here's a picture of it's data plate.

Ah So, Diesel Kiki.
Why do think you need to adjust it, or are you looking to adjust the timing? |

Full throttle is not giving the right amount of power. Would like to adjust it more, the only way so far We've got more out of it is by adjusting the Surge buffer, but with that adjusted, the engine wont idle.

To my knowledge no, but anything is possible, Still working the kinks out of the system. I should add, the engine _Does_ Idle but too high of an idle with the surge buffer readjusted, I know the engine timing is right, so we want to play with the pump to get more oomph out of it

Getting more oomph out of a diesel, if the pump is timed correctly, requires something other than a simple adjustment.
Start with a turbo. |

Bit out of the price range for one right now. and I've never come across a Chevette turbo in the Junkyard. Would like to Focus on the pump for now, If we got a little more out of the throttle, It would go a long way in producing the power we need, a Turbo is on the list of would likes but finding one is going to be hard, and getting it at a decent price harder still, Not to mention the intake manifold and Exhaust manifold to go with it. According to the guy who bought the motor, says it's stock and has not fiddled with it, but I personally Dont believe that he has not fiddled with it or a previous owner has not fiddled with it, thats why I am looking for a shop manual on it to see what things are supposed to be set at and see if there's any adjustment to see if there's anyway to get the throttle to open up a little more.

It's not in the cards. There is no reason for the car maker to limit hp when the engine makes only 51 hp. Even if you could increase the power, how much do expect? A 5% gain, which would be astounding, would be less than 3 hp.

Isuzu sold some diesels here in the US, but Chevy never sold a Chevette with one.
The cars were the same since they were both Opels, but the bodies were quite different. The Isuzu was sold as an Opel starting in 1977 because the Mark just got so high against the Dollar GM could not afford to bring in the German Opels anymore. So to make the Buick dealers happy they started importing Isuzus and badging them as Opels. I knew a guy that had one of these. Very, very slow, but he claimed he got 45 mpg. All Chevettes were made in Brazil and you could get them with a diesel engine there. Perhaps someone imported one? Still, I think if you look for an Isuzu service manual you will find the help you need. |

Check online for Isuzu I-Mark and Opel Kadett Diesel forums. I believe it's the same engine.

You are right. I just could not remember the name the Isuzu was sold under in the US.
And.... It could be out of a pick-up. Isuzu sold a lot of those in the US with diesel engines. It was called the PU'P. |

The OP has a diesel powered Chevette. It is not important if the car was or wasn't imported into this country.
