75% of HS graduates not ready for Careers or College

.

ACT, a national college testing facility just released the results from this years examination.

75% of graduating high school students are not prepared for college or for a career.

Here's the link -

HS Seniors Ready for Life

I wonder how many more generations and how many more billions or perhaps trillions will be wasted before folks stop trusting 'the powers-that-be' to guide their youth in education and value development?

PS - in case you think the bar was set to high by ACT, for them being college-ready means 25% of those who they say are ready will get a D or an F in a 'typical' (meaning very low-level) college class.

Yeah that seems about right from what I have seen.

That test does not necessarily reflect how someone will perform. I barely met the acceptable numbers on the ACT in math and science and slightly above in reading and English. My number was 24. The minimum acceptable from the ACT people is 21. A number of 30 and up are considered exceptional.

I slept through college, never paid attention in class, skimmed if even touched the textbooks, and crammed an hour before the test. Exceptions were classes that actually held my interest, which was less than 25%. I graduated easily, very easily, with a 2.649. My university has dumbed things down to accomodate the kids that "aren't prepared" make it through. College was a joke. I had no interest in attending other than getting the required mythical piece of paper that makes me more qualified to work and satisfying the parental mandate.

Any idiot can get a LAS degree at city colleges and universities, but most likely it won't do anything for them. I was much more into work than school.

.

Sure enough.

You use the tools that are available to examine data.

They called being college ready an ACT of about 21 if I recall.

So what you're saying essentially, is that an average US college degree isn't worth a damm.

I wouldn't say that. It keeps employers from automatically dismissing your resume because you lack a degree.
