By all means, tax away. But I can't help but wonder what happens when the additional revenue barely makes a dent in the deficit and they still spend more than they bring in? Hello middle-class. I've already heard the $200,000 income level bandied about (admittedly it was in passing so I may be mistaken). Hardly a private-jet-owning, plunder-the-poor, high-living level of income.

Without a reduction in spending, raising taxes will do nothing to reduce the deficit and vice versa. Both need to be done but with elections so near there's too much base stroking to perform to even consider any sort of compromise.
