China: Auto exports rise 82.8% on-year in August

Automotive exports from China reached a record high for the month of August, rising to 86,200 vehicles last month. According to a report carried by Ocn.com.cn, this figure translated into a year-on-year increase of 82.8%.

Chery, the Chinese car manufacturer, is one of the latest to announce expansion plans in Brazil, after selling more than 3,000 cars during August, an increase of 80 per cent from the same month last year. The group plans to spend $400m to build a factory in Jacareí, an industrial town about an hour’s drive from São Paulo.

“Chery has [a] mission to be a global company and to be a global company, you can’t just be in China. Brazil is a strategic auto market for South America,” says Luis Curi, Chery’s chief executive in Brazil. “You have to be in this market.”
