Thinking that I want to sell the Bertone and buy either a SEC or 300CE

Yes I have a 1989 780 Bertone that I bought about five months ago. I love the car, but have two other Volvos, a 633 CSI and the 500 SL, and while the Volvo deafinitly has its advantages especially with the turbo, I think that I prefer the lines of the Mercedes coupes. I have a feeling that the Bertone is going to be hard to sell as it's not exactly a practical Volvo.

I also think that I want to get to know another Mercedes since I have enjoyed the SL so much.

Any thoughts on this?

Smile Mercedes coupe > Volvo.

The 780 Bertone to me is the most beautiful Volvo ever made BUT it has the horrible french 6 cylinder engine.

I owned a 740 for many years and the little 112 hp 4 cylinder is not too fast but it is a wonderful reliable little engine. Made in Sweden.

From that vintage, the rule of thumb on old Volvos was RUN AWAY from any of them with a "6" in the model name, like a 760 ect.

Those ones are very trouble prone.

20-30 year Volvos are certainly getting a lot more scarce now. Many are hitting the yards now, junked. they are just not really that cherished, or kept up well by their typical non-enthusiast American owners.

They are notorious for their biodegradeable politifcally correct plastics thoughout them too, which finally crumbles no matter how well you take care of the cars.

For pure style, sexiness, unarguable prestige, breeath taking good looks, eternal longevity, easy parts availability, unmistakeable brand identification on the street, build quality that is cost no object, and unassailable durability and safety, there is no other choice:

The Mercedes 500/560 coupes or the 300CE coupe.

And this coming from someone who has owned a 1991 Volvo 740, 2001 Volvo C70 coupe, 2 560SECs ( a 1990 and a 1991) a 1990 560SEL and a 1995 E 420.

Finally,

Try THIS with a Volvo. ANY Volvo.

I owned a 1991 300CE for 12 years. I sold it with 221K miles on it....solid, beautiful, reliable. I can endorse the W124 coupe!

I believe the 780 Bertone was available with two engines, the PVR V6 and the Volvo turbo 4. That car with the turbo 4 might be my "attainable" dream car.
