Anyone just pack up and leave?

Ive become bored in my life. I like my family and friends but I think about just packing up and moving to another city. Anyone ever done that before here?

I haven't, but I won't say the thoughts haven't passed through my mind on occasion. Tyler has talked about it. My sister seems to do it every 5-7 years. Chilcutt left the country altogether.

Change can be a good thing, especially if you feel that things have stagnated.

Yes but what is your specific question? Since my teens, I have known that I wanted to be out of where I was born. I moved across the world.

Other than going off to the Army and then off to Germany I've never done such a thing. I made plenty of moves as a kid, but had no choice in the matter.

That said, for someone unattached, leaving no upaid bills behind, wanting to get a fresh start, this might be the best thing they can do for themselves.

I personally would be a little more cautious than most in some ways. I would want to make sure that I had a job lined up or know that I was going somewhere that jobs in my line of work were obtainable. Of course if you're independently wealthy, then this part of course would not apply.

With all that taken into consideration, doing a master reset of life could be a great thing as long as you realize the risk involved.

This subject brought to mind something my Grand Dad told me one time:

When I was a kid we moved all the time. 12 years of public school I went to 12 schools. Faced with one of these upcoming moves I was talking with my Grand Pa who didn't like the idea, but was trying to help me with the struggle.

I was telling him about how I hated to leave my friends and he told me a story that he probably made up for the occasion. He said there was a family that was moving into town and stopped at the local store for a few things. The proprietor asked if they were new in town and they of course said yes. The Family then asked the store keeper how are the neighbors in this town? He asked them how the neighbors were where they came from. They replied "we had GREAT neighbors," to which the storekeeper replied "then you will have great neighbors here as well."

Another family came into the store who were also moving to town. They also asked about how the neighbors were. He asked them the same question and they replied "we had TERRIBLE neighbors where we came from." He replied "you will have bad neighbors here as well."

I don't know if this applies or helps, but it came to mind and it is something worth understanding.

Regardless of your choice I wish all the best of luck. Keep your chin up, be positive and it will all work out.

Larry

Just checking to see if I'm crazy if I just move one day.

Why confine yourself to being inside of U.S. borders.

It's a big world out there.

Before I left the States behind, my feild of vision was an approximate spread of about 3 inches...now my feild of vision is about an 18 inch spread.

My advice is to not limit yourself...you would be surprised at what you can accomplish by simply doing it.

Dont hesitate.

I've done it twice. Both involved graduate school, one to another country. Even though it was for school, in retrospect, the packing up and moving may have been the most important part even though I thought it was just an inessential aspect at the time. Your world become different. It probably has something to do with our evolutionary development as a tribal species. Leaving the tribe makes a big difference

Yup, moved to Arizona on a motorcycle. Sold all I owned but my tools. Best thing I ever did. A good percentage of my growing up friends are dead now, mostly from drugs, alcohol or some related form of violence.

Hell, I moved to another country too. Initially I figured it was successful. Now, not so sure. Still, it can be a life changing experience to just up and move. Just make sure you don't have any loose ends that will hinder you and you can get established where you are going.

Packing up and leaving is the American way. From pioneers to Route 66, Mormons, Yankees, ex-Confederates, Southern Blacks heading to Chicago, GTF Out of Town is the way to go when things look bleak. Go west, young man. Right now, North Dakota is the place to be, rootlessly speaking.

True. But then you'd have to...like...live in North Dakota.
