Before the politicians gravitate to picking your pockets for their self interests. They have to start somewhere. There appears to be more stigna attached to a little shoplifting by a politician that the major legal crimes they commit.

We have grown to take those in stride. So cynical it is actually an expected behaviour. We are seldom really disapointed.

As I told a friend of mine once. You only dislike politicians because you cannot get elected. You too really want your finger in the pie up to your elbow.

Looks like she is trying to take advantage of her position. Guilty IMHO, but we should wait for the details to emerge.

I think it was Ben Franklin who addressed this very thing when he said, "A public office is a public trust."

Franklin likely knew a lot of crooks since the best way to get rich then was to be on the King's good side. Need a land grant of a few million acres? No Problem! After the Revolution a few changes were made and being in tight with the political leadership as the way to riches was one of the things that was supposed to be done away with.

Not that it worked out that way, of course.

Anyway, everyone is guilty until proven innocent. But if she is proven guilty then she is no longer capable of earning the public's trust and should be at least removed from office. After that... Whatever the law dictates.

I wondered that myself. Pretty obvious, pretty petty. I don't see anyone else saying "read the article, professor, seed seller, printer, farmer, property developer, college kid, used car salesman, retired geezer" etc.
