The 221's are great. Much better then the 220 body. I had an S63 as a loaner a couple years ago. The S class seemed to get alot of bad impressions from 00-06(220) but the 221 is a must see and drive. Of course nothing out there will ever be a 140 ever again.

Compared to the 140, I feel it looks cheaper on the inside. The seats were stiffened up quit a bit more like BMWs as well. I like cushy seats.

I've never owned a 220. See too many of them with bad air struts and transmissions at the auction.

Lots of early 220's 00-03ish are not really worth buying IMO. Even a 01 S55 AMG is nothing all that great. Too many issues in the prefacelift models. I was working at my indi shop last week and there has been this repeat 2000 S500 that seems like its a once a month visit. (A/C Air suspension, windows, now paint work)

yep

I have a customer that owns a 07 S550. It is a very impressive car. I never did try to figure out all the bells/whistles on it.

Agreed. Also the post facelift 220's are much better. Seems like they worked alot more bugs out and the interior looks and feels nicer. Upgraded the command system is a huge must.

I will be honest since I had the 221 loaner for a couple days it was not too bad. I was overwhelmed at first with all toys but its not too bad once you play around for a little bit. I love the layout of the interior. May see one in my future You never know lol.

A friend of mine is on his second w221 and both have been trouble-free. His 2006 w220 was almost always with an electronic or Airmatic fault.

PPI verdict on my auction 140

Needs:

Pads and rotors all around
Thermostat and coolant
Bushings for idler arm, all other suspension components tight
Has original shocks but seem in good shape
Slightest seepage from oil pan. Tightening bolts a bit but not worth addressing
All other fluids clean.

Indi shop will take care of that. Or some could even be a DIY job if your familiar with the 140?

My Doctor said the same thing about me on my last checkup.
