I don't think we will have to wait for anyone to trash Newt. It looks like Newt started doing this today.

With all the attention being paid to 'Washington Outsiders', and some Republicans claiming that is who they want, Newt proclaimed today that he is the ultimate Washington Insider and that only he knows what is necessary to change the way things are done in DC.

He was addressing this point while defending his fee of $1,600,000 for 'historical advice' he gave to Freddie Mac that folks at Freddie Mac are saying he never provided. They thought they were hiring someone to lobby Republicans for them; someone who could convince Republicans to not look at them with too close an eye.

But since Newt is not registered as a Lobbyist he cannot act as one. So if Newt is correct he was paid for giving historical background to Freddie. If the execs are right it appears Newt has committed a felony.

I am sure this will all be sorted out in the future.

Its not an inability to keep up, its me leaving the thread mostly alone because I don't really have any reason to trash Newt. My objections are in policy and policy alone - on the whole, I couldn't give a rats ass about what these guys do in their sexual endeavors as long as they prove good leaders. If anything, the power-hungry personalities often contribute to their infidelity. I couldn't care less what their high school grades were, who their past girlfriends were, and who may have had class with them in college. Its all simply a diversion from the true policy discussions going on (or rather, not going on). Case in point, I'd vote "slick willy" into office without much hesitation. Newt is a pretty smart guy, I'd like to see him and Obama in a debate. As far as intelligence goes, I highly doubt such a large portion of our intelligence forces were diverted to "chasing down the dress" so to speak. I would truly like to see FACTS regarding this rather than speculation. Actually IIRC we had OBL in our gun sights at one point and a military commander called it off last minute (would have been a PR nightmare).

And yes, if Bill had kept his pants zipped up, he would not have been able to have sex with anyone. The issue was blown out of proportion by media and the GOP trying to oust him. He shouldn't have lied on the stand though, I don't think anyone is arguing that point. IMO if he just admitted it, it would have been swept under the carpet a LOT sooner (obviously GOP would cling to it if they had any sense though).

All well put!

Yes, Slick and Tricky Dick both learned that the hard way. Fortunately for Slick, the morality of the US had gone through such drastic decay in those 18 years or whatever it was, that it was much easier for Slick.

The GOP didn't allow anything they had on Clinton to be swept under the rug. They began pursuing him before he even took office. Ken Starr had been investigating him for 3-1/2 years before he ever heard of Monica Lewinsky. The GOP's conduct was a disgrace.

Something they seem to do quite well.

M. Bachmann just started trashing Newt for 'Shilling' for Freddie Mac.

She said a lot of ugly things about him which I am sure you can find on line if you are really interested in her opinions.

Not so much. I'm very disappointed in the current crop of Republican presidential candidates. I'll most likely caucus for Ron Paul, even though I think he's gotten wackier since the last time he ran.

More Newt trashing....

Jack Abramoff is now saying terrible things about Newt. A quick online search should turn up his comments and a bit of history on Jack and what he is currently up to.

So far I can't find any Democrats trashing Newt, but then, with the other Republicans doing such a good job of it do they really need to?

Newt has touched the third rail of Right Wing Nut Jobbery: Freddie and Fannie. Either he's toast or they are going to be eating a lot of crow.

Don't go by me, but I would think that the best strategy is to wait to see whether Newt rises further in the polls before unloading on him. He has such a long and f-ed up record, I have little doubt that the Dems can blow him out of the water, but they should wait at least until GOP voters get invested in him. Seems like that would take some more wind out of their sails.

I have no idea what I'm talking about on this stuff, but that's the way I see it.

PaulC.... I am 54. As for Obama and his cronies, what about the racism and name calling his political cronies are doing to the Reps. Remember, that Obama has visited 57 states, maybe he is also counting Kenya and Indonesia.
Memorial Day he welcomed the dead heroes that he saw in the crowd. How about the mentioning of Marine "Corpse Men" that he repeated several times. What gives all of you the right to bash Newt? As for Freddie & Frannie; hey, they hired him and his firm. Good or bad, How's Freddie & Frannie working out with our money?
