Icing the kicker
I know it's been done for years, but isn't there something slightly wrong with this "icing the kicker" crap? Why should a time out that's called too late be valid? This business of an opposing coach being allowed to stop a play with the other team on offense, after the play has clearly gotten underway is just whack. I know that the challenge flag has to be thrown or the time out called before the snap to be valid, but it it's done just a split second before, sure looks like a real play to the players and fans.
There's already too much of plays being called back onnaccount of penalties, the league ought to minimize this business of the fans starting to cheer only to be crestfallen, at least where it's possible to minimize it. That's one thing I like about baseball: a home-run is never called back.

I couldn't agree more!
It's a shame though when the teams own coach ices the kicker resulting in the loss of the game as happened in the Cowboy game two weeks ago. Jason Garrett is sometimes a dunce.

Watch professional wrestling a little and gain perspective. College football has what to do with college? Semi pro. Nothing is more american than college football. The rich get richer and the players are basically slaves risking all for a promise. The chance of a promise is more accurate. It is all entertainment. If you like to laugh you can laugh at it. If you like to get drunk and yell at the TV...

"Ok guys, we know we screwed the pooch on that one. Just run a dummy play and we'll call a big penalty on the other team to make up for it."

What is a catch anyway? It changes from play to play and day to day and game to game. "he didn't have 100%, absolute, total control of the ball before I could place a bet on his team, no catch."

OK, this is war. I was en route to a friend's house and missed the faked field goal the Niners would have pulled off in the second quarter, only it was called back cuzzin the AZ coach wanted to re-examine the previous reception. Supposedly he threw the flag just before the snap and the ref blew the whistle just after the snap. You can see it here:
NFL Videos: Fake field goal? Or fake challenge? The players looked like they thought the play was live until right at the end. Would have been a first down at least, somewhere near the 20 yard line. There's no way they're going to run the fake play twice in a row, are you kidding? This crap should stop. Players are putting their bodies on the line on every play. One day, someone is going to get injured on a play that wasn't going to count anyway behind this 'coach's option to stink up the house.' It's really time to end this shyte. Some sort of definable 5 seconds before a snap needs to be established, after which point, no TO or challenge will be honored.
