H4 LEDs Anyone use them?

I was killing time and saw some H4 LED's for sale. They say not for use as head lamps but what do they know?

Has anyone used them? How bright are they?

LEDs

Got my attention! I'm kind of concerned about the statement about not to be used for headlamps. If you can't use them for headlamps they don't sound very useful.

I learned when trying to use high intensity H4 replacements that the shape and location of the filament made for glare problems with my 124 Euro lights. I wonder if the placement of the LED's cause a similar problem.

Thanks for posting this David!

I would guess the 'not for use..' thin is because the DOT has not approved them but that is just a WAG. I cannot figure out how to determine the intensity of the bulbs. There is no lumen rating or anything.

I kind of like the H3 for the fog lights and and I am trying to figure out a bulb for the rear fog light. They have a 45 led 1156 and a 18 led 1156. Again, no idea of the intensity. Tempted by the 45 led one but I do not want to burn a hole in the retinas of the guy behind me if they are too bright.

They have that relative intensity grid for the bulbs but I do not know relative to what? A regular incandescent bulb? The sun? What.

Answered one question but only [artly
Quote:
Relative Intensity Bar
This bar indicates the relative intensity of the bulb with the other bulbs in the same category. The bulbs will also be sorted from maximum intensity to minimum intensity.
I still do not know how it relates to a regular bulb.

Every time some moron comes up behind me with super bright fake HID's in blue or white. I feel like ramming an axe in his head.

These things will light up the rear view mirror of the guy in front of you from miles away. If you at all have consideration for other drivers, don't buy them. Only you'll think they're cool. Everybody else will think that you're a

Alabasi,

Is that your Rhode Island Red? What a beautiful bird.

Yes, the fake HID's are bad when they are put in headlight refleters/lenses that were not designed for them. They make for glare that reaches outside the intended light pattern. That's why they're so annoying. Used in a lens/reflector designed for them they work great without blinding everyone else on the road.

Check out the videos of these on youtube.

Some of the videos show light output poorer than regular bulbs.

I just found a different site that gives a bit more info on the lights.

LEDlights.com.

The H4 says it is the equivalent of a 15w incandescent. Brightness level of 1. I know the bulbs in there now are 55w. Are they talking about the same thing?

The H3 has the equivalent of 10w and says 'this is a very bright product'.

I am getting more and more confused.

Larry,

I don't know what it is except that it's a cock. I used the picture instead of word to make a point that may be considered inappropriate.

However, I think that using cock to describe the bird in the picture is perfectly appropriate

I only see H4 DRLs with the caveat that "DRLs do not produce enough light for head lamps and are only intended for fog light replacements, show, and daytime running applications."

How can they be bright enough for operational fog lights but not as head lights?

Fogs are intended for FOG USE only...not everyday/night driving in perfectly clear weather like some morons insist on doing...and when you're FOG DRIVING, you're not going the posted speed limit unless you're like the 90 or so idiots on I-75 in Florida that managed to sardine-can themselves last week...

I have a "light meter" from a few years ago that still makes a descent determination of level coming from a source and I have H4s in my SLC...I should check them against regular incadescents to see how intense the beams are relative to one another...on axis and off. I'd be curious to see where the hot spot is relative to the beams' spread...

Nice question Sixto...

All of these aftermarket WONKERS in the LED sector

KNOW the equivalent output when compared to Incandescent or HIDs...
BUT they'd NEVER be able to sell to the Idioten "Tuner" crowd if they "Fess Up"
[Notice how ALL of them Obfuscate like crazy to AVOID real life comparison???]

The featured alleged H4 DRLs (THAT'S DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS) ARE a really
WEAK replacement for the Factory O.E.s

I've NEVER seen (Or Heard tell) of LEDs that could realistically be used for
Headlamps.

50 Yards down the road.)
