Email scam

anyone here get Emails that dont seem quite right when they are trying to sell somethin on here? I got one last night about the engine I'm selling... I'm on the fence whether or not its legit or not... wondering if anyone else had the issue when listing things for sale here

Absolutely - I get them as soon as I post something new on CL. The message is very short. Usually: "Do you still have it?". Look at the address email that sent the message, now press Reply button once to reveal the reply address but don't press send. If the sent email address and reply to address are different it's a Bot - do not send them a reply or you'll be deleting "Male enhancement" and "Asian Singles" emails by 100s from your email box. Scumbags...

For all my CL listings I require that they send me their name, telephone and a keyword that I specify in the body of my ad. If not, I don't reply.

Beware and good luck.
James

the reply to address is the same as the sender which kinda threw me, thats what i normally look for. but this person keeps asking for my home address and wants to pay with cashiers check or money order... both I am hesitant to accept because they can be fradulent and I really dont need that trouble on top of it all.

Sounds iffy - beware and don't let your guard down.

I'm glad I'm thinking the right way... Is there any way to verify Cashiers Checks or Money orders without depositing them? I know if they are funny the feds get involved and there's questions.... etc... I do not want that....

Cash only. Not hard for the person to do since its what they have for the cashier check anyway. And if they want your address, have them call.

Be careful about having the phone numbers too. Sometimes the phone numbers can be looked up to an address.

Create an email for CL or classifieds only and make it a nickname, not your real one. Or make sure your number is not linked to your address.

I Dont know if it's a forum member. I cant search Via Email for members so I have no clue. This is one of the accounts I use for craigs etc.. the only reason I asked was it's on the fence as far as legitimacy.. some of the grammar leads to me think it's a hoax... I'll post excerpts in a moment or so

Do you know that most posters hate poster that post in hidden mode, they equate them with stalkers.

You are the only one who has mentioned it..... I will let people think what they want.

Thanks you for your response, as for the payment, I would need you to get back in touch with the last asking price as I will be paying with a Cashiers Cheque or Money Order.Lastly, please forward to me your full company's (or house address, telephone and fax) details as I will subsequently prefer reaching you through these facilities.

I will be looking forward to hear from you soon.

Yours interestingly,

Looking at that text, I can't imagine that it isn't an attempt at a scam of some sort.

When I see really goofy-sounding text such as that, I often pick out a specific goofy phrase and try it in Google:

I will subsequently prefer reaching you through these facilities - Google Search

Any response that I get that is too vague, i delete.

No sense taking any chances.

I don't think i have had any here though.
