Just downloaded a great album...

Boats, Beaches, Bars, and Ballads by Jimmy Buffett. 72 songs, 266 minutes of pure heaven to the ears and soul.

I used to have this on disc many years ago, but lost them when my car was broken into and they ripped the CD changer out. There were 4 discs total in the box set. They could have kept the car, I was more upset about losing the music! LOL

Amazon has the complete box set on CD for $38 and MP3 downloadable for $36. I've seen other places selling the CD set for $70 I decided to go the MP3 route, as I can always burn the music to disc if I wanted to at a later date. Also, buying through Amazon lets me keep it on the Cloud drive, so I won't lose it all if my computer goes out.

Now I have something to listen to on the 4.5 hour drives to Ohio other than iHeartradio or Pandora, both of which cut out when I lose strong cell signal in the mountains. I have to admit, both of those programs kept me sane on those long drives between UT and OH a few years ago.

What's a CD?

Great find! Nothing like some Buffett to ease the mind.

Not a Buffet fan, but glad you are enjoying it.

Check out Google Music. Very cool cloud storage for your music. At work we keep a few thousand songs up there for use in different venues so we don't need to carry it with us.

Any idea of the fidelity of those downloads?

Many folks are fine with music with the fidelity of iTunes, Pandora radio, etc. for me, it's okay at the computer, or iPod during a workout (like I work out!), but for critical listening, no.

Case in point, listen to radioparadise.com, you'll laugh at the others listed.

Bit Rate:
Where possible, we encode our MP3 files using variable bit rates for optimal audio quality and file sizes, aiming at an average of 256 kilobits per second (kbps). Using a variable bit rate allows us to allocate a higher bit rate to the more complex sections of music files while using a smaller bit rate for the less complex sections. The average of these rates is then calculated to produce an average bit rate for the entire file that represents the overall sound quality. Some of our content is encoded using a constant bit rate of 256 kbps. This content will have the same excellent audio quality at a slightly larger file size.

Still MP3, but at least they make an effort to do what they can

With 369 songs, and 72 albums...how many more do you want?

Since I have hearing loss in the higher pitch areas, as long as I can still hear it, I'm happy!!!

To get music to a level that I can truly enjoy it, I need much more highs from multiple tweeters, as well as a deep, pounding bass. The stereo in the Tahoe isn't enough, but it works for me.

I really wish I would have used hearing PPE when I started off in this trade 26 years ago...

72 albums? More like 26 studio albums, about a dozen live concert albums and a bunch of compilations.

I think the one you downloaded is from the early 90's

LOL That was actually supposed to be 720...I was trying to be sarcastic.

The era of that album is correct, the exact year is 1992.

I hardly ever buy the live albums of concerts I wasn't able to go to, but I made an exception for the 2003 Live at Cincinnati album...because I was there

Thanks for the info, the kbps is good, I'm now wondering about the size of the file. Forgive my ignorance on the subject. Most mp3 type downloads are small, as to fit many on your device, yet devices are getting larger. I'm digging into audio forums and when ripping cds into iTunes, use the lossless, takes up as much room as possible = fewer songs for a given memory. Yet, this results in the highest quality available, my goal.
