DO you ever go mudding?
I know you don't do it in a Benz other than a G, ML, or Unimog but do you ever go offroading? I go everyonce and a while in my cousins Chevy 3500 (454). we get stuck a lot because of the truck being so heavy but we can tow about anyone out.
A girl I go to school with takes here 300e offroad all the time and never has any complaints. (crazy) |

WhenI had my 83 GMC Jimmy K5 I used to go offroading all the time.
Then when I had my 89 Jeep Cherokee, I took it mudding in oregon when I was at school. I got the jeep stuck in a 4 foot deep mud puddle once. The car was halfway submerged. Muddy water started seeping in through the doors, and I panicked for a good minute before I came to and relaized. 4WD Low, Rock the car back and forth, and voila I managed to pull it out. I had to take out the interior of the vehicle to clean all the mud out, including the seats, carpets, and door panels. I also had to have the engine, and everything underside of the car, wheel wells, brakes, etc. Steam cleaned. tHe car also needed a good detail. To this day, I still found mud in one of the doors when I replaced the speakers int he rear doors for my mom. But the jeep is still going and it has 155k on it now. Alon

He He, I love to take my 74 240 D up the many forest service roads here in Costal Oregon you might be suprised where it will go. I get a lot of strange looks in hunting season blasting along the jeep roads in Pearl The Girl. Also built a 454 powered 2wd K5 Blazer which is big fun except at the gas station.....

Hey Frank, your thread got shut down NOT because of the subject...it was a worthwhile topic...it was when some turned the discussion into personal pot shots and insults...not sure how it got out of hand, but I think it morphed into a battle of the "G versus ML" off-road-worthiness.
I don't care personally, cause I had stated on that thread that I don't even DARE to take the ML out in the rain, thus ruining all of the undercarriage polishing I had painstakingly performed...

I don't think a day goes by without going off road for some reason or another. I am on constant trespasser patrol and try to cover over 3000 acres as much as possible. I also drive off road a lot during the winter to look for animal trails and tracks to get an idea what they are up to. The vehicle may be noisy but the animals are not to scared of them (they only get upset when it stops or you get out) and they don't leave that human scent like your stinky boots. Also I can cover a lot of ground in the ol Tundra.
The tundra has not been stuck yet I drive fairly conservatively off road. Plus my 10 year old daughter likes to do the driving when we are on the patrol. |

Yeah used to go mudding and 4wheeling quite a bit when I was younger and lived out west.
Had a '79 Ford bronco that I built up. Rebuilt the motor for low end torque, put on a 6" superlift, 35" tires, locker in the rear, posi in the front, swapped in lower gear ratios (front and rear), and a lot of other misc stuff over a couple of years. Had a great time doing it. Sold the ol girl couple of years ago here in Kansas. Last I heard the guy who bought it was entering it in mud competions and doing very well. Now the only mudding I do is on county roads when I'm off hunting in the fall. |

I used to have a 1969 VW bug that put snow tires on all 4's, oversize in the back. That car did great with its unbreakable front end, rear wheel drive with the motor over the drive wheels and a stem to stern belly plate. I used to chase jeeps with it

Howdy G-Benz
Yeah I know, I just don't want these guys to start getting carried away with whose car performs better in the dirt It looks like you have room on that list for an off-roader

Frank,
That Mog might do good in the dirt, but I reckon it couldn't handle the steep incline of the parking structure at the mall in Mission Viejo . Seems someone promised to bring one, now who was that??? :p Oh well, maybe next time. And I had my digital all ready to fire off lots of shots of a Mog at the Mall.

Howdy Mike,
Some of the steep city driveways have given me fits I think I ask if either a Gwagen or a Mog would be ok to come to one of your get togethers. I didn't know you wer going to have one so soon The Mog won't be ready until October and I haven't swung a deal on a G yet. I am looking forward to bringing the Mog if the incline isn't toooooo steeeeeep up the driveway I just got off weekends so if you have another event in the real near future I will show up in my Jeep Wrangler so you guys can have a good laugh

Do I EVER?!
I sure do! I went on some outback trail the other night, actually... a scary, desolate area in Santiago Canyon (/Silverado)! This wasn't too extreme, and I don't hurt my car... but it's still a risk... and a lot of dust!!
And check out this picture! Turned out great... Here is the link to the full camping trip: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?threadid=20600&highlight=camping+trip

Hey, next time you go off-roading, take the CLK 320. With the top down...
Seriously though, Road and Track drove a couple of 911 Carrera 4's with 3-inch lift kits and M+S all-seasons off-road to the rim of the Grand Canyon, detailed in a issue about a year ago. -sam |
