I'm sorry, were you under the impression that someone somewhere was going to feed you unimpeachable truth? It will be up to you from now on to separate the wheat from the chaff, to discern that which is worthy of acting on and that which is not.

I forget the exact quote but it's something like 'the purpose of an education is so that you will know whether or not a man is talking rot.'

Cronkite was right. The Vietnam war was a military disaster for the US. The Tet offensive served to illustrate that they would never stop.

**EDIT**

Just read Cronkite's actual remarks. It would appear that your line here: "I grew up during the Vietnam war, watching "uncle" Walter Cronkite--that paragon of American News reporting telling me about the war. About how the Tet offensive was an overwhelming disaster for US forces and complete victory for the Viet Cong," was not fully accurate. Ironic, in a thread disparaging exaggeration or misstatement by the media to push a POV.

Memory is a funny thing. I recently saw a study that documented how unreliable memory can be. I guess I fall into that particular error.

I suppose from now on we'll have to get our news from close friends and relatives . . . like those batches of emails that they seem to send back and forth to each other . . .

They say memory is the second thing to go and I forget what the first one is.
