The bank is required under the Pat Act to ask where you work, the request for her salary amount was a creative move by the bank manager, according to First National.

The other account after no activity for a year is considered dormant. The bank will notify you by mail and if you fail to respond, they notify Geithner and he confiscates it.

That smack at First is a chooch, I pitched a ***** but there's little other than a complaint that can be done.

Oh but there is more.

You write to the Federal Banking Commission (?) that a bank is doing this in the name of a Federal Banking law (and they will fine the bank or send them a reprimand).

Then you post this on the Internet and you tell First National CORPORATE that you want an apology.

Banks hate this kind of publicity.

I know this because I got a previous bank manager fired.

As a result, the people in the bank respect me, or at least-- they don't mess with me.

Let me guess, you didn't even try as displayed by no effort to find out actual facts whatsoever, yet fully willing to spew partisanism at the drop of a hat . Hence the triple animated mega facepalm.

GWB signed the USAPATRIOT act into law in 2001. Only certain parts of the law were designed to be renewed or given expiration, the rest were explicitly permanant (including the one in question). The extension signed by Obama was only for three parts that expired and required renewal--the roving wiretaps, a court order clause enabling the FBI to use FISA courts, and the "lone wolf" clause which catches individuals who actively try to circumvent FISA regulations. Now, the part that allegedly is affecting your mother was not affected by Obama, Frank, or Dodd, no matter how many times you close your eyes and wish it. Swing and miss....better luck next time.

OTOH Whether the BSA is applicable to CD rollovers I have no idea--but I imagine this section III and BSA would be the part applicable to the situation, which was extended by the patriot act--which is why I provided the link.

Nope, the PATRIOT Act specifically doesn't ask for employment info. Employment verification is one form of identity verification in lieu of a gov't issued ID and SSN, but if you can verify your identity sufficiently through other means, the PATRIOT Act doesn't actually require it.

Employment + income info does help when determining whom to spam with credit offers, though. And having employers in your database along with the salaries that they pay employees, dates of hiring new employees, etc allows the bank to hit up the employers themselves with credit offers.

I talked to the bank today and they told me under the pat act they are supposed to ask/list where you work...that's it.

The income issue was the bank manager playing some type of game.

Ask the person who you speak to to give you a specific reference to paragraph and section in the law. Just because some bint in India or Indiana says it's true doesn't mean it actually it.

X2. It doesn't really add up--my guess is its just something they tell people to comply with bank policy. If you're curious about the law however, the info is available.
