Back in the dark ages when my mustang was my daily driver an everyday occurance was waving at a fellow mustanger on the road.Sometimes just a single finger(not that one!),if you knew them a full hand wave,if a friend then the hand out the window wave.I know Harley riders do it as well and since these cars are "cult cars" IMHO it would be appropriate. What do you guys think,or am I just whacked(a definite possibility)?

Hmmm, I would but no one that has my car would ever wave back. I do sometimes, however, get waves or flashes from other people while I am driving my bimmer.

When I was a kid (back in the Jurassic era), my Dad would wave at fellow MB owners, and I remember fellow VW Bug owners do the same (although they probably got wrist cramps by the end of the drive).
The practice seemed to wane around the late 70's-early 80's, when the "yuppies" came into play...then you didn't meet owners who cherished the marque, but merely, people who bought for status. Sometimes I nod at owners of the early MBs, and they nod back, as they seem to cherish their vintage pieces. I get no response from drivers of late-model MBs, and I guess it follows the MB stereotype thread that many new MB owners aren't particularly MB owners for the love of the cars, but just consumers...

This is a good topic. I get waves from soccer moms in SUVs and salesmen in Taurus' when I'm in the MB. NO one waves at the Honda or the Toyota and LOTS of people wave at the Falcon. Hmmnn... We're probably gonna need professional help to figure this one out.

When I was a kid, I remember driving with my Dad in his 69 280s. I'd say about 75% of the other MBs we'd see would either wave first or wave back.Almost never see it now when I drive my 190E. However, I get the thumbs up from 90% of the Scirocco drivers I see , but less than 5% of other VW drivers when I drive my Scirocco.I guess it depends on the rarity of the vehicle?

Other 123 drivers tend to wave (only if their motor looks like it's looked after)As for most of the newer models their drivers look at you as if you've just landed from Mars! BEAR

Howdy All
I couldn't vote!¡ Yes I wave no I don't wave.I own a Jeep Wrangler, I wave at other like models(CJ,YJ,TJ). I don't wave at other Jeeps unless they wave first. I own a Unimog. Same rules apply. There are just too many cars to wave at and drive at the same time.( I am not a multi-task person ![]() http://dirtroad.com/jeepwave Remember this is done in good humor ![]()

Hell, most people won't even look at you these days as if they are afraid to make eye contact in fear of who knows what.
Anyway this what I have observed during the years I have been working on and driving MB; Late model (>85) MB no way. People must assume you are some kind of a**hole. They won't even look at you or your car. Early models (<85) the older they get the more attention they garner, the nice ones anyway. I guess people figure that if you drive an older MB that is fairly nice it means to them that you have worked hard to keep that way. Just my .0002

Got a honk from a fellow 300CD driver the other day!
He was ahead of me in a Teal turbo, and must have seen me in his mirror. When he got into the left turn lane and stopped, I came past him continueing on and honked at him, and he honked back. I thought that was pretty cool because he was sort of risking the ire of the people in front of him stopped, I am sure they couldn't figure out what he was honking at. But people in San Jose are pretty cool and tolerant. I love this town!

OK the vote seems to be in favour of waving, but I think I'll start off limiting myself to chrome bumper models. For the most part I don't think any late model drivers would have a clue

Howdy Kyle,
There was thought of having window or bumper stickers for members but like me some people don't put stickers on their vehicles. So for those people maybe we could get Mercedesshop license plate frames, then we can wave ourselves silly ![]()

Depends on where I am waving.
Around town wave is either: ignored, a quick turn of the head like they never saw me wave (especially drivers of newer M-B's), a quick getaway because they think I'm going to mug them, or a single finger held up waving back indicating my IQ! ![]() In the country wave: usually a friendly wave back, but only if I am far enough away from town! ![]()
