The other day while in a shopping mall i saw a kid drop 20c, he looked at it & kept walking. I walked over & picked it up. He turned around, saw me pick it up & called me a beggar. i just laughed at him & walked off. Better in my pocket than his.

Me to. The wife and I had a 3 foot tall plastic ice cream cone the we have been putting our spare change in for the last 15 years. It was almost full. Then earlier this year our daughter helped herself to ALL of it. there is no telling how much money was in there. We started filling again. Needless to say, we have hidden it very well.

My mom has saved her change for years. Twice in my lifetime, she's used those coins to pay cash for a new washer and dryer.
We have a couple of old wine bottles that we use to fill with change. One for pennies, another nickels, etc. I've had to empty the one filled with pennies a few times because it was filled. These are some of the only things I was able to salvage from the house fire, and we really had to scrub to get them cleaned. When we moved, it took two guys with a dolly to move them, because they were so heavy with the change. i don't know what we're saving it all for, but one day all those coins will have a high value to me, and will be spent on something needed.

Actually...no. They pull many of them out of circulation and re-issue new ones. it's the cost of labor and material that has increased the cost of producing them.

A penny basically has no purchasing power at all anymore for all practical purposes. In Canada they are being withdrawn from circulation..Probably a year or two till they are totally gone from use.
We have a very large clear glass carboy type of acid bottle but it is so old I am not sure of the origin or original use. Possibly 20-25 gallons capacity. We have thrown pennies in it for years and years. You cannot move it now and it still is less than 1/3 full. The wife asked me what are we going to do with it as pennies are being discontinued. I had no ideal so just suggested we put spare nickles and dimes in it as soon as pennies are no longer out there. The bulk of my pocket change gets tossed in the top dresser drawer in the bedroom when I empty my pants pockets. This is continually drained down any time less than 10.00 is required for something. like a quick trip to the store for a gallon of milk for example. We have the one and two dollar coin up here in Canada. No bills below 5.00 denomination so you land up with a lot of change in coin form. The purchasing power of the dime and nickle is almost over as well. Actually it is really gone for all; practical purposes now as well. Most our transactions are now paid for with debit cards and this trend seems to be increasing all over the place I suppose. I can almost visualise a time when very little coinage will be present in comparison to today. I guess the only concern with money on my part is. A hundred dollar bill feels much like a twenty dollar bill in purchasing power compared to what seems not that long ago to me. A recent statistic up here is our money has about 75 percent of the purchasing power in reality of the american money in your hands. This is when both our dollars are about on a par footing. a hundred dollar bill has approximately 17% of the purchasing power it did in the early to mid 1960s. remember, IT IS ONLY PAPER dressed up to look like something of 'value'.
