And..... this morning Ed's feeding himself, wisecracking with the nurses, and with absolutely and total hilarity - rocking out.

Darling Wife was talking to Twin Brother about playing Mozart for Ma to calm her. I said "AC/DC"

Ed chimed in instantly with "Highway to Hell!"

He's playing air guitar. Flashing devil horns. And making us all cry happy.

What a ride.

One hour it's completely plausible to imagine Ed at least back home puttering around the house if not actually able to go back to work... probably not driving himself, but working at the ARC.

Next hour it seems impossible to imagine Ed getting to the point he can deal with the toilet on his own.

Tech, nurses, CNA's, therapists here have all been awesome. Only issue we have is that docs (who we've yet to meet in spite of being here pretty much 12 hours a day) have been "haphazard" in dealing with his meds. Big, giant, harry-arsed red-flag was prescribing a big guy with serious kidney issues a NSAID.

Darling Wife and I were in Ed's room, nurse comes in all cheery and chipper and says "we've got a new medicine tonight."

Both our radars fire up.

"Indocin" says nurse.

"Oh hell no" says Jim.

"Isn't that an NSAID?" says Darling Wife.

"Yep" says Jim.

"Oh hell no!" says Darling Wife.

Nurse agreed to not give it to him (duh), called doc, and marked Ed's chart "refused." Darling Wife says "nope - get it DC'd!" (discontinued).

We couldn't talk directly to the doc (grrrrr). Jim acquires paper and marker, Darling Wife makes up giant "don't change Ed's meds without checking with daughter first!!!!!" sign. By the next evening, charts had been updated to DC the Indocin. Risk (and hassle) that shouldn't have happened.

So - wheels are in motion to get Ed moved over to another facility in Baltimore. Was our first choice, but had no beds available when he got booted from the hospital. One with docs (including a neurologist) on staff in the stroke rehab center.

We'll have to see if the stupid stupid stupid insurance hassles can get worked out to make that happen.

Insurance company says "no lateral transfers" and won't authorize the move to a different facility.

They now have a pissed off red head to deal with.

Sounds to me like when that Red Head opens up, it would be a real good time to recognize that this is obviously not a 'lateral' move, as the new facility would be an upgrade at the same price... in fact, a bargain for the company....

Wishing you the best. You, DW and Ed certainly deserve it.

Sounds like Ed needs a 1/2 day trip to hospital, only to find bed at old place is no longer available on his return and he HAS to go to the 1st choice place.
Stupid insurance co just cost themselves a bunch of money.
