Evangelical Pretends To Be Gay For A Year

Why a Bible belt conservative spent a year pretending to be gay | World news | The Observer

I can't help but feel deceiving your friends, family and then new friends within the gay community is a bit wrong. Still kinda interesting though.

interesting story, I read Black Like Me when I was a kid. Perhaps this book will help quell anti-gay feelings some.

This story sort of reminds me of that reality show...'Under Cover Boss'.

It def does! I just wonder how he outed himself the second time. "Surprise! I'm not gay." "No, definitely don't like the penis, thanks."

I just think it's weird to take over somebody else's identity without having to live with that identity or its risks for your whole life. I mean, if a year as a gay man was eye-opening, imagine what knowing you are a gay man and would be gay and getting called "f*****" in your 80s would be like. Well, hopefully by then no one will be doing that because homophobia will have died out but you know what I mean.

How was the book Black Like Me anyway? Was there any fallout for the author for passing as a different ethnicity?

Makes me think of the courtroom dramas where the lawyer asks "Were you lying then or are you lying now?".

Much like his god, he probably believes that people are there to be screwed with anyways. Look at all the crap that is recorded in that silly book he follows. Father asked to kill his own kid to prove loyalty, tower of babel, Saul being made to see things a certain way to get his sight back. Thanks but no thanks. Such a deity I don't want or need. All for a vague promise of something we don't know will come or not. At least, if I sold my soul to the devil, I get the goods today, here and now, or so the stories go.

It was reported that there was an autographed copy of that "silly book" on ebay.

Likely a correct assumption that you did not hit the "buy it now" button?

I'm talking about the bible he reads from.

HELL NO. Why buy when you can steal one from the hotel nightstand?

Something also surprises me. In college, we often went to the gay bar because they didn't card well and we always had friends that were underaged. Only 1 time did someone offer to buy me a drink. Most times they know I am not gay. How did he pull it off??

Not that I do now...but if I ever reach the age of eighty, I seriously doubt that I would care less about what anyone thought of me.

Hell, I might even walk around in public wearing just my underwear.

I'm not hip to the book you are referring to...must have been someone else who brought that up.
