You should reach out to the Motorcycle Safety Foundation and see if they offer any training or refresher courses in your area. Might seem overkill for a scooter, but it helps you deal with the challenges of riding a two-wheeler in a four-wheeled world, why not?

I have a moped (Puch) and my neighbor gave me 150cc scooter. I commuted 13 miles to work on the moped for a year or so in good weather. I always rode on the side streets and found that the 'bike routes' with a designated lane for bicycles were the best routes. At a mile high, I was even slower than at sea level. Got to keep your wits about you when you're on two wheels. I haven't ridden the scooter for more than a block because it requires registration. But if a person removed the 'cc' logo on the bike, I don't know how anyone would know it was above 49cc's because scooters of greater displacement seem visually identical. I've never seen a cop disassemble an engine to determine its displacement.

Had a 2004 Vespa ET4 (150cc) since new, sold earlier this year. The wife mostly used it to commute, though I would run errands on it too. Piaggio makes a very good product. The 125cc model is a good choice, as the 50cc scoots can't quite keep up with traffic on 40-45MPH surface streets.

I strongly suggest taking an MSF course. A scooter is really a motorcycle with an automatic transmission. It's not a 2 wheeled car, knowing how to ride it properly and well will increase your safety and enjoyment. Around here they offer scooter specific MSF too. Most scooterists don't bother with full motorcycle safety gear, but please wear long sleeves, long pants, gloves, and a full face helment when you ride. You epidermis will thank you! |

Do tell. Is it multiple guess or is there only 1 right answer or an essay question?

![]() My guess would be that they are fun to ride but you don't want anyone you know seeing you on them but there might be other answers.

There's the class of larger "scooters" that are more properly motorcycles with scooter frames, bodies, and storage compartments - the Suzuki Bergmann 400cc and 600 cc, Honda Silverwing 600 cc, Yamaha Majesty, and a few others.
