Goodbye $5 footlong, hello $7 salad.

This was my shock at Subway(TM) today. I had been feasting on spinach salads for some time, but went on hiatus from the massive veggie intake for the last couple of months.

Returned to Subway(TM) today and got my 'same' salad, but asked for it 'chopped' and added bacon. Previous cost had been $5.27, today's total was $7.51

I guess it's time for making salads at home from now on.

Thanks Bennie-boy!

This being said, salads are easy to make - brought an amazing pasta salad to a job today. Plus Subway "food" makes me sleepy for some reason - maybe MSG or some other glutamate in their sauces.

The calorie content of some of those fast food salads is amazingly high.

I make my own salads at home. They are mostly spinach with a bit of iceberg lettuce in them.

I beg to differ. A good salad is the perfect accompaniment for a surf and turf.

Buttery potatoes or pasta compete with the butter dipped lobster tail and detract from the taste impact of the lobster.

A good steak fills you up. If you fill up with with cheap carbs, you will not appreciate the qualities of the steak.

A salad compliments rather than detracts from the real stars of your meal.

Don't feed the salad to the rabbit, salad kills rabbits. Eat the rabbit and eat the salad on the side.

Salad kills rabbits, rabbits don't eat salads unless some dumbass gives it to them. Rabbits eat hay and tree bark and stuff people can't eat. That is what makes them such a great addition to the food chain. They don't compete with us for food but they are a great meal.

Salad is for old people and people who want to get old but still be healthy.

lightly dressed mixed greens, spinach, bitters like chicory and arugula, some iceberg or romaine for crunch, a few grapes cut in half or pear slices and good tomatoes if available is the perfect go with for any meat. Forget the goopy carbs. The light acidity of the salad offsets the richness of the meat perfectly.

Exactly.

I had to laugh when John Pinette says in the skit, "Salad is not food, salad comes with the food. Salad is a promissory note that food will soon arrive. If my brain sees a salad, it says something good is gonna happen soon. Wait right here."
