Pneumatic Impact Wrench?
Hey everyone,
I was looking around today and came across some decently priced impacts.. I am not sure about torque rating though. I am not looking for the end-all-be-all of impacts as I dont want to spend THAT much on one really.. Any thoughts? I've had good luck with their products in the past... Eastwood 1/2 Inch Twin Hammer Composite Air Impact Wrench

I'd almost prefer the lower weight of that tool as compared to the die castings on the traditional wrenches. Sure, you can't kick it all over the shop, but none of us use such a tool on a weekly basis anyway. I don't see how you can go wrong with such a tool for infrequent use. |

My brother in law swears he likes his electric impact wrench better. You should really make the air supply line a little larger or use those fittings that do not choke it as much if you go air. Many impact tools can produce what they claim but not on limited air avaialbility.

I have a mid-tier Ingersoll Rand. It claims about 400 lb-ft. Sometimes I wonder. I've used an electric impact and was impressed with its power. Either should be able to remove anything that's bolted to a passenger car.

I like my electric HF impact wrench. No need to fire up a compressor. Handles the lugnuts on my cars quite well.

Avoid the lower=priced HF impacts. From personal experience, and everything I have read, they really lack any ooompf. Their "Earth Quake" line, however, is said to pack a punch.

Milwaukee 28V Impact works like a dream for me. The issue with the IR Pneumatic is probably the air feed line diameter or the compressor is not holding enough air in the tank because the auto shut off pressure sensor is bad/old.
I don't own/use HF because I expect any tool I buy to last a minimum of 10 years. I would rather buy a used IR air wrench and have it rebuilt and have a better tool than buy a HF air wrench new. |

The impact is only as strong as the air behind it. A home model 20 gal compressor will run an impact for like 5 seconds before the power goes down.
I bought a craftsman pro electric impact wrench at an auction for 22 bucks. It will take those rear axle bolts off the rear of my w124 with little effort. Unless you are already set up for air, its a better value to buy electric.

I have a Dewalt 18V impact and would say don't pass one up. I noticed that they sell the bare tool now for people who have the batteries and charger.
The fluorescent style work light is the rechargeable tool I use most. Best tool ever. Bare tool also available. I still use a breaker bar with the impact. Sense of feel is essential for us true shadetree types. |

LOL my grandma had bought it for her house but it sat unused for a good while so I've been borrowing it for a number of years now.

I agree, what I was saying, is that the impact wrench (regardless of brand) and the 20 gallon compressor (regardless of brand), will only run for 5 seconds.
