Not sure what you mean by true and pre but Texas altered history in the books tot he point where it is a joke. Some of the changes involve down playing Jefferson's roll in the founding of the US, questioning the separation of church and state and said that the US government was infiltrated by communists during the cold war.
The school board also decided that Reagan should be emphasized more, hip hop music should not, and Jefferson David should be studied along side Lincoln. They also decided to assert the founders Christian faith even though quite a few were secular or Deists.
This is the reality of the Texas school board. By the way, the board consists of 10 republicans and 5 democrats. Go figure.
