SS190 duty The SS190 FMJ, a refinement of the SS90, was introduced in 1993.[6] It offered superior performance over the prototype projectile as well as slightly reduced length.[6] The latter change allowed it to be used more conveniently in the Five-seven pistol also being developed at that time.[9] Fired from the P90, the SS190 propels a 2.0-g (31 grain) bullet at a muzzle velocity of roughly 715 m/s (2,350 ft/s). It has a steel penetrator and an aluminum core.[40] The SS190 has been manufactured with a plain, black, or black-on-white tip color.[15][41][42] It is classified by the ATF as armor-piercing (AP) ammunition, and its sale is currently restricted by FN to military and law enforcement customers.[15][24] In testing done by Houston Police Department SWAT, the SS190 fired from the P90 into bare ballistic gelatin exhibited penetration depths ranging from 28 to 34 cm (11 to 13.5 in).[21] In testing in 1999 by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the SS190 fired from the P90 at a distance of 25 m (27 yd) exhibited an average penetration depth of 25 cm (9.85 in) in ballistic gelatin after passing through a Level II kevlar vest.[38]

Doesn't call them cop killers in that article. Only in the references at the bottom by the Brady bunch.

So you're arguing about who calls them that?
Silly me, I thought you thought they were not capable of piercing a vest.

ANY caliber can be a cop killer, it depends on the composition and shape of the bullet There are .45 cop killers and the .45ACP round has been around since 1900.

thats assuming he is shooting a non frangible round, very common with pistols as well. a fmj 9mm, 40 s&w, 45 acp ect.. can have the same effect.

Now another concern that always pops up is over penetration. People are worried that the more powerful guns are going to poke through more walls of their house, and potentially endanger their neighborhoods.
Here’s the thing. Remember good old Safety Rule #4. Be aware of your target and its environment? It still applies. You are responsible for where your bullets go, even in a gunfight. And since you’re trying to stop somebody, any round powerful enough to poke a deep enough hole to reliably damage a person, is powerful enough to penetrate a bunch of building materials. TANSTAAFL. There ain’t no such thing as a free lunch. But this is one benefit of using a rifle for home defense. Loaded with PROPER ammunition, the more powerful rifle bullet will often penetrate less than a pistol bullet. A proper defensive rifle bullet is going really fast, and is designed to fragment, which causes more damage to people, but also tends to cause the bullet to break in drywall and 2x4s faster than a slow moving, solidly-constructed pistol bullet. Either one will still penetrate, but with the correct ammo, the rifle bullet can give you the best of both worlds. Carbine vs. Shotgun vs. Pistol for home defense « Monster Hunter Nation

Hey, I was just listening to the news. If I want to buy a cop killer I would get the advice here on what to ask for.

Well, of course it matters which rounds you use. A 9mm loaded with target rounds is not even lethal. There was a big hoo hah here about fifteen years ago when a local cop shot fleeing kid in the kiester with a target round. It lodged in the kid's behind. With the impressive title of the article I was waiting for the part where the author tested the effectiveness of the gun against armor but it was simply a write up based on other evidence.

ANY round is a potential "cop killer". Shoot a person above the vest, in the throat or head, with even a .22 and the potential is great that a fatal shot occurs. All about hype from the media. Fear sells, so does hyperbole.
