Technology -Trendy or Useful?

I havent been frequenting this forum too much lately so forgive me if this has already been discussed.
It seems that everycar is eventually going to have an optional LCD display of some type availible. I love tech gadgets as much as any other tech freak out there but I think that these latest trends are getting out of control. Is there really a need to have video games/DVD/VCR/internet availible in a car. I am not talking about a mini van that these things are used to shut kids up. I am talking about cars that are meant to be driven. it seems that anyone with extra money goes and puts these things in thier car. Shouldnt you get a car because you like driving it not because you want to put a few small screens in it so you can impress people? On MTV's Cribs I saw a rapper who put one in his steering wheel! Brilliant cause theres going to be tons of time to watch that. Too bad he sacrificed the airbag for that and probably increased his likelyhood of getting injured when the screen breaks in a crash. Oh well at least it wouldnt be a big loss(too bad about the car though hehe). My point being, if your car is that boring that you need outside entertainment to enhance it, you shouldnt have bought the car in the first place. Sorry just wanted to get this off my chest.

"It's all about the Benjamins"...the title of an upcoming movie, and the philosophy of the type of person you just described.

Many in the rap scene garnished unrealistic expectations from the "hood" about what is truly important in life...and if you bother to watch any of the music videos (a real torture for me, especially at my age), their credo is all about one-upmanship...at any cost!

Cars, mansions, girls, cash, and jewelry (bling bling)...that's what it's all about. I saw that "Cribs" episode. The video display on the steering wheel is about as sensible as the platinum and diamond dental work that many of the rappers proudly display!

Even if an S500 would suffice, they purchase a Bentley because that is what their rapper peers expect to see as a statement of success...adorning themselves with jewelry costing more than most people's homes, buying all sorts of toys like 4-wheelers shod with 20-inch gold tires and rims...you get the picture!

Most rappers' assets (and tastes) rarely make any sense to the rest of us...and why only a handful actually have anything left to show for it more than a year later...
