When Wurtsmith AFB was still operating, we used to fish The AuSable River for salmon and it was very close to the runway end and directly on the approach. It was overcast and you could hear them taking off and landing most of the day. You didn't know how close you were to the runway until a buff would bust out of the clouds in full view at about 200-300 feet. Talk about a rush.....and a very large one to boot.

I wonder how long you'd be willing to stand out there and wait for them and then film if it was January instead of June in Minot...

Cool vid, thanks for sharing it.

"Minimum Interval Takeoff was designed by the United States Air Force to get its bomber fleet in the air within fifteen minutes of an alert of an incoming missile attack, that being the time in which the bases would be obliterated.[1] Although it had roots during the Second World War, the tactic came of age during the Cold War"

Sucks to be the guys left back on the base.....

It is interesting to me that MAD worked as a defense policy at a period of time in human history when belief in an afterlife could confidently be removed from the anticipated thought processes of all groups involved in a conflict. Not really possible anymore in our world.
