Here, the survey is only shown to the attorneys in the cases, not to the court employees, unless you actually get picked -- guess it's for privacy reasons.

I've been summoned for Jury Duty next Friday. Not sure what they can possibly do at the end of a week?!!

Also, I'd be apprehensive about being prosecuted in court with a "jury of your peers"...individuals unfortunate enough to not find a way to get out of jury duty!?

Believe it or not, some of us want to serve -- I consider it a civic duty, as you should as well. As far as going on a Friday, cases can run several days, so if you get on a case, you'll go back on Monday.

(Generally, unless it's a high-profile case, jurors DO NOT get locked up in a hotel for the weekend.)

I wish they would take Volunteers!

A lot of People do not get paid by their Employer when they are on Jury Duty and where I live they don't pay even the $10 Jury fee for the first day.

If you can't live without income for a week or two, you're not saving enough.

It's not the "income" which is a problem. If I could just avoid the "out-go"...

I can do that; but, I am not a Single Mom living in an Apartment with 5 Kids.
If you are in the above situation and say you need to be home with your Kids (like pick the Kids up form School or actually be there when they get home from School) the Jundge is going to tell you to pospone and make arrangements for someone to take care of your Kids.
If you have no Realatives or Friends willing to do that you are going to have to pay someone.

I realize that other People have more complicated financial obligations then I do.

A juror with this hardship reason would be dismissed same day.

I have been called several times and as a sole propriator, have been dismissed immediately as my business would suffer.

It frequently takes more than a day to select a jury.

They could even dismiss you on Friday and call you back on a Monday.

Or, you could be called to a jury room, and be in the process of jury selection, which might finish Friday, or drag on the following week.
