Okay, thus far here's what I've seen as effects that can be attributed to the sequestration:
1) Some (to varying degrees) government services are affected by - fewer man-hours spent on services/projects, abysmally low morale due to many factors. 2) Cancellation of almost ALL travel, MOST employee training and MANY projects and exercises have occurred for my organization. 3) Public sentiment is backfiring for all politicians involved. The immediate effect is much federal employee bashing, the longer term effect will be congressional turnover through the next election. 4) Immediately, there seems to be so very few consequences, but... ...we have yet to see what a reduced work week actually means to all aspects of programs and infrastructure. There is no need for 'fear-mongering' from anyone. The impacts will likely be noticeable, but the scale of those impacts is an unknown, while not as substantial as a shutdown, should not be taken lightly.

Some over-eager SES have been pressuring GS to provide examples of sequestration horror. One even did it in email. Fool.

Here's how it it's going to affect me:
I work as a nuclear engineer at a naval shipyard. We are being told that we will have to take one day without pay for 22 weeks. That's a 20% pay drop for almost half a year. I have not had a raise or cola for at least 3 years, and congress just voted to not give me a cola this year. Even in this economy, we cannot keep new engineers. Most leave within three years for much higher pay in the private sector, so please spare me the old saw about how much I make versus private industry. T'ain't true, MaGee. The disruption in routine is unbelievable. I cannot get material to build my product, because the money is frozen. Morale sucks, we don't know if it is going to happen, or if it isn't. So we waste a lot of time and money planning for something that may not happen. As a result, national assets will not get out on schedule and the final costs will be much greater than if we didn't have the furlough. It's all just a dog and pony show for the politicians. I live in an area with a large military presence, and the trickle down effect is going to be felt on everybody in this area, not just the goverment employees. I imagine that this will hurt a lot of people, especially those that are the type that are living from paycheck to paycheck. My wife and I are already in shutdown mode, if I don't absolutely need to buy something, it doesn't get bought. Go out? Forget about it, not now.... it's looking like a long, lean summer and fall. I am also in the defense industry, but in procurement at a private contractor. There is a definite sense that the tap feeding us has been turned down to a trickle. I am sure things will get worse. I would expect to be given direction shortly to "terminate for convenience" certain contracts. What that means is that whatever product has been produced, stop, box it up and send it in. Send it to the warehouse and let it rot. Talk about fraud waste and abuse....

^ and the most hate for the R's? It's all about politics in my opinion. I was reading about some grant for 1.5 million for scientist to study why, percentage wise, lesbians were more overweight compared to heterosexual women. This is the type stuff that the federal government should not be pissing taxpayer funding for. There is a lot of this type stuff going on out there.
