Unfortunately there are those along the lines of President Obama's expressed thinking/feeling, that want to make it about ever more unrestrained, and unecessary pork spending....by trying to change from what he said he was for 'Sequestration' - before he said he was against it. Mr. Obama seems very confused, but actually he's not.......what he is, is very political IMO.

The American public, doesn't want it (more unrestrained spending/pork) - but alas a few rabble rousers do. Go figure........

Have you actually researched where/when the phone assistance program came into being and how it is funded?

You might want to consider doing that so you can more accurately lay down the blame.

Rather than have the leftists try to read my mind, and say why I posted that, let me fill in the blanks. A friend posted on facebook ( I really know this person; they are not simply a FB "friend") posted about a week ago how thankful they were for the new phone that Obama just gave them. I responded to them that they should thank anyone they know with a job who is paying taxes because those people are the ones who paid for the phone that Obama "sent" them.
Its still rankles me that people are so sheep-like that they really think ( rather they emote) Obama somehow gave them a phone.

My posting had nothing to do with any supposed "talking points. It was my response to something of which I have personal knowledge. If it so happens to also be a RW talking point--well coincidences happen, I suppose.

How about you explain how the program originated and then explain how the program in its current iteration is being implemented.

There is something known as letter and spirit of a program. It is currently being rampantly abused for political endeavors.

The American public IS everyone - not just the few that bother to vote for either candidate.

There is a vast numbers difference between the "American public" I referenced, and the much lower subset number of "American public" that voted for Obama. Not to mention the fraudulent voting activity that was proven to be rampant in Florida for instance.

I was referring to cmbdiesel's post, not yours. I agree with you about the pork spending. I felt cmbdiesel was alluding that the "phone program" is not a product of Obama's but is an offspring of a program developed more intensely during the Reagan years but actually has roots going as far back as Roosevelt.

My issue with Obama phones is that I, we and you all pay a "fee" otherwise known as a tax that funds the phone program that is administered by the global company that controls TracFone.... During Obama's tenure the program has exploded see this page. Obama Phone: Gov To Spend $2.4 Billion On Millions of Free Phones In 2012 by Mac Slavo

"estimated $2.4 billion in support in 2012; that compares to an inflation-adjusted $582 million it provided in 1998 when five million subscribers participated in the program." the govt does not control the program but sets the dollar amount of "discounted services" that people can apply for.
the govt is sort of hands off in this program but ultimately controls the purse strings...don't be fooled.
or feel free to research other sources of info. All the welfare queens, meth heads, dead beats and crack head wanna bes are going to bring down a program that was rooted in good intentions and are taking away from those truly in need.
