Joe Golden,

Her name on the show was Julie (played by Tina Marie). She quit after trying to feed JR to Cliff Barnes...

Did the bar-b-q have a name? I know they put on a rodeo.

Julie! I remember now. Do you remember which car Pam was in when she supposedly died? It was red, I think. Do you remember which kind of car Bobby was hit by that supposedly killed him? It was white, I think.

The BBQ may have been part of the rodeo.I could not remember the name. I never could figure out why Cliff would be invited to anything at Southfork. But, he was always there!

Excuse me while I go get a drink from the cart under my fathers portrait.

later,

Joe Golden,

I think Pam was driving Bobby's red sl when she was killed off. I didn't see who hit Bobby, but it was a neat trick how they all the sudden brought him back the next season.

Who shot JR???

OK,

Nobody has a guess at what kind of car Chitty-chitty Bang-bang was? Am I the only person who remembers that silly movie?

Here's some more:

What kind of car did Mel Gibson drive in Mad Max?

Who built the original Batmobile?
What kind of car was it based on?

What kind of car was the "Bluesmobile" in the Blues Brothers?

I'm sure I'll think of some others...I'm on a roll now!

Mike

The Blues Mobile was a 74 or 75 Gran Fury, with the 440cid, unless you're referring to the 1970 Caddy rag top the band tooled around in.

I though Bill Bixby was the son in My Mother the Car - I could be mistaken though.

The original Batman has roots in two cars, the 59-60 T-Bird and a Lincoln, but can't remember which made the final cut.

Chitty has to be an English ride, and I haven't a clue.

We watched Chitty Chitty Bang Bang a couple of months back with the grand kiddies. I forgot how much fun that movie was. But this time around you pick up on all the adult humor thats over the kids heads! Remember the rich girl "Truly Scrumptious"? Of course being written by Ian Fleming the man who gave us Pussy Galore this is to be expected.

TX, thanks for that on the Ethyl, thats the same as we called 4 Star, it ceased being sold over here about a year ago amidst uproar with anyone running a car over 10-15 years old. We are a bit slow to catch on you see!

As for the Plymouth Valiant in Duel, a guy who lived over the road to me when i was about 10 had a white one, exactly the same even down to the hub caps, although this one was a right hand drive to it was a bit easier to use on british roads!

Bit of movie trivia here, there were 2 trucks used in Duel. They were both Peterbilt model 351's. The main one was from the 1955-1960 model run. This did the whole film, and got wrecked at the end. The other one was slightly different and came from the 1962-69 model run. This was used in the railway crossing scene when Dennis Weaver was being pushed across the tracks. This one was kept and used in several episodes of the Incredible Hulk!!!

As for the Plymouth, i would love to have a drive in one. The suspension looks so soft im surprised if you ever felt a bump in it at all. Classic 70's american styling! God we missed out here in the UK!!

PS, as for dear old Chitty. thats a bit of a mish mash of cars. The front half has a distinct Austin look about it, trouble is most british cars of that era look pretty much the same. The back half was actually a boat!

And while we are on the subject of Mr Van Dyke....did you all cringe at his cockney accent in Mary Poppins as much as we did???!!!!

Oh, I can't resist telling you about my ultimate fantasy cars:
Sean Connery's Aston Martin DB coupes!
The closest I ever got to one, though, was my 1967 MGB GT which was a fun ride- they handle better than the ragtops and mine was especially quick on account of the webers I installed.
It was a very reliable car, actually, and never stranded me anywhere. Surprisingly comfortable at speed for rides of up to 3 hours or so. Had that little AM radio mounted over the transmission hump...

My dads sunny day car is a 71 MGB Roadster soft top. Nice cars, but the steering is a little on the heavy side!!!

Excellent gearbox though, 4 speed manual with overdrive, ticks over nicely at 70mph.

What kind of truck was it that Jed Clampett used to move his family to Beverly Hills?

That was a fairly nice touring-mobile for a family - everyone gets a good seat with a view of the countryside. And of course a head-turner when cruising 'round the 'Hills.

Matt Crooke,

That's hilarious that you would want to ride in a Plymouth Valiant!
My brother owned a 74 model that was baby blue (hand me down from the grandparents). You are absolutely right about the ride though. The softness contirbuted to a lovely effect called BODY ROLL. Whenever we'd go around a corner we'd say to ourselves, "body roll.... body roll... body rolll!" This car could lean to well over 45 degrees (maybe a little exaggerated).
It was a good time. That thing could also coast for miles. We checked it out to see how long. Started it down a hill and then put it in neutral. 2 and a half miles later we finally had to hit the gas.

Howdy Ken
One source says the vehicle used in the Beverly Hillbillys was a 1921 Oldsmobile. I didn't find what Olds it was.
