I haven't looked it up, but I would lay odds that black unemployment today is much, much greater than in 67.... (and has been for years.). That could/should arouse bitterness today. Shouldn't it?

It will be interesting to see how the actions of the DOJ play out in this. Will blacks and others react if they decide not to prosecute? In what manner? If they prosecute and he's acquitted again, what then? I tend to agree with you that big riots won't happen this time, but that, too, remains to be seen.

Point of clarity. George Romney used his National Guard, then asked LBJ for Fed troops. LBJ sent a unit of the 82nd Airborne . The "All American" Division.

For the record, in July 1967, I was out of the country, sailing around the Medeterranean Sea, shaking off the effects of the Six-Day War and the USS Liberty attack. CONUS news was sparse, except what we could copy off the AP & UPI TTY wires.
You might want to do some reading on the cause of the unrest in Detroit. It was police suppression the people there were reacting to. Years and years of it.

Detroit was not about a guy who ignored the police, stuck his nose into someplace he did not belong, got in over his head and took the easy way out.

YOU guys may be getting getting senile but my memory is as sharp as a bell.

It would be hard to find an environment in the USA worse than the one I grew up in. An educated person there was one that had made it out of the eight grade.

But if you know there is a way out all you have to do is work towards it. A lot of the kids I grew up chose to stay in the gutter, but several of us climbed out.

And the point of my comment was: Yes, regardless of what you are looking at the environment is the same. And if you want your's to change then it will not do it on it's own.

If a man's reach cannot exceed his grasp then what's a heaven for?

Ooh, that's nuthin'. We lived in a septic tank, ate hot gravel, and worked in mill 36 hours every day and when we came home Dad would cut us in half with a bread knife.

I'm not big on Z but are you sure about that? A woman in her house cannot shoot a rapist? A homeowner can't shoot an intruder rushing at him with a baseball bat?

Making me think about that probably qualifies as terrorism. Biological warfare.
