Kid left in cell for 4 days without water gets $4.1 MM
Good. Shame the gov't will be paying, rather than each and every idiot on duty that day having all of their assets and home auctioned first, their wages garnished for life, and only then would the gov't pick up the rest of the tab. How does one "forget" a person, or was this some sort of non-judicial punishment?

Agreed
I read this earlier today too and thought how the h*** could that happen? Then it made me think about a recent post that talked about how cops are now driving around and scanning people's license plates and running them thru a computer AND then storing the info. A bunch of posters weren't upset and kind of took the attitude if you don't have anything to hide than don't worry about it. Well in my book everybody should have been p***ed off because it won't be long until you start hearing about how cops are making mistakes with their new dangled technology and throwing people in jail. And here's another example of how a kid almost got killed because of negligence.

If they have all that tech, can't they have a computer to track cell occupancy and remind them to check on their guests every few hours?

The easiest, most logical solution is seldom put into operation. Murphy's Law at its best. P.S. Before the haters start, very good family friend is a Columbus cop and has been for 20 years. The stories I've heard over the years not only about criminals, but police officers could fill a book. I'm for responsibility even if you're one of the good guys.

One obvious solution is to absolutely abolish holding cells that don't have either copious windows or bars opening out onto the main thoroughfare of the office. This guy was shouting and being ignored. Hard to imagine that he could be similarly ignored if he could be seen.
$4 mil is almost light for what he went through.

I agree, as far as we know no individual will be held responsible or accountable. At least the director of the facility and his stooges who should be watching that section ought be charged with criminal negligence and have the city/state go after them personally. This kind of evasion that the system is built upon represents worst failure of the system. |

By the time he pays his lawyers, agent, publicist, accountant, dealer, hookers and the rest of his crew; he will probably end up living in a trailer park with rent and debt. So the story goes...

Nah, I'd wager he'll have at least $3 mil left over.
