Anyone have a PC flight simulator?
Up until about 10 years ago, I had a PC with a few flight simulators, my favorite being Combat Flight Simulator: WWII Europe series. It was great fun to drop in on some B17s flying in formation with my Messerschmitt Bf 109.
That game was released in 1998! I can't believe its that old. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lc4Vz6hc61Q I also remember a general flight simulator with all types of modern and vintage aircraft as well as helicoptors. I would try to do silly things like launching a small jet off the top of the WTC, see if I could get control before hitting the ground. I remember the erie feeling on 9/11 when I had done the very same thing on the simulator many times. I would like to get into it again, and was curious if anyone else plays, and what setup they have. Good joysticks? Any recent WW2 era games or other simulators you would recommend?

I have fond memories of waking up on saturday mornings and making bombing runs on the Eiffel tower. I loved the game, and the Microsoft force feedback (2) joystick I earned for a good year in middle school made it lots of fun. My parents (in the room next to mine) didn't appreciate the sounds very much in the mornings.

Yup... lots of fun to fly the P51 under the Eiffel tower to shake those pesky Germans off your tail.

Bomb
This guarantees that the CIA will read this thread..LOL Anyway, I used to fly in Novalogic's online world with one of the three planes I had from them...F-16, F-22 Raptor or the MiG 29. Many of us split up into squadrons and would war with each other in either Novalogic's designed battlefield, or one that we designed. I tried getting into Microsoft's Flight Simulator, but my computer wasn't that powerful at the time. I had a joystick, rudder pedals, and a separate throttle control. When playing Novalogic's game, I would connect two other monitors up and have the left view from the cockpit on the left screen, right side view on the right screen, and center on the center screen. Yeah...It was a bit geekish, but it sure was a lot of fun! We even used Roger Wilco, a VoIP program at the time to keep track were everyone was in the game.

James Advanced Tactical Fighters was my first simulation game and still to this day my favorite. I have yet to see another game with the shear variety of options open to you.
You could Fly any aircraft if the game from fighters to bombers and even the AC130 (the only thing you couldn't fly were helicopters) There were single missions, several detailed campaigns, a quick mission creator based on your parameters and a pro mission creator for even greater levels of detail. I tried the Novalogic series but didn't really like them as I felt they were too focused on a single aircraft vs ATF. Jane's Fighters Anthology - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I have a decent Logitech joystick that works just fine. I was using Combat Flight Simulator 3 way back when, but it's only like $9 instant download on Amazon now.
I'll get it if you do! |
