If/when I do buy an SL I won't be working on it. Warranty and dealers problem come to mind.

You mean 4400 lb r230 is fat? You have a good point. At Sears I can lap faster in a GT2, but at Portland, HP baby.

I have one, sitting in a storage unit. Can't really be driven much around here, the weather doesn't warrant driving without a top for too many days a year.

I have been tempted a few times to sell it, but knowing that my FiL wanted me to have it before he passed, I can't bring myself to do it.

1987 560sl...fun to drive, horrible if you're a passenger with legs of any length. It's true about the gas consumption...I drove it from Utah to Kentucky and back, dang near killed my wallet, but it was sure fun cruising at 135 mph in Nebraska on I-80 at 2 in the morning for a few hours.

My daughter keeps asking me about it. I've thought about dusting it off and letting her drive it for a bit, but I think she needs more experience behind the wheel before I feel comfortable letting her loose with it.

Add me to the list of "wouldnt mind having an SL someday"

I agree that they arent sporty, not common with a stick shift, heavy and amazingly small inside for such a large car outside. But...

I have seen the SL in person, and it is something to behold. You would be lucky to have it Swampthing.

I've never been a fan of any two seaters convertible or otherwise. I just can't see myself giving up so much practicality.

I do like CL/SEC style coupes. Great looks, plenty of open air and still enough seating for 4 and a good sized trunk. I find them to be just the right balance.

I've driven a few. I can't say I was impressed. R107 to me feels like someone took a W123 and cut the roof off, with the consequent noises and chassis flex. Even the supposedly awesome W113 that I drove (and put a new clutch in) wasn't all that impressive. For something sporty, I'd much rather be in an old 911, or a newer 911. I haven't tried a Ferrari though.

Don't you just hate driving the wife's car after not driving it for a long time, and discovering all kinds of things that need attention...

I try to make sure I get behind the wheel of my wife's car at least every couple weeks.

Last time I drove it after an extensive period of ignoring it, I ended up putting new ball joints and tie rod ends on it. Guess she never really noticed the clunking sounds it was starting to make...

I'm the exact opposite, I have almost no use for 4 seats.

When you've got 4 kids, having a vehicle that will carry almost none of them has a certain appeal.

Owe I often never have more then 1 other person in the car, its just the thought of having to transport more then one and being unable to do so that stops me wanting one

I understand. Sedans are a compromise for me -- I'd rather have a wagon.
