TX and evolution... this state is ass backwards

Every time I see stuff like this I just have to shake my head in disbelief and hope that the kids in our schools some how manage to discover the truth on their own because they sure as heck will not find it out in our school system so long as the religious right has a hand in the school boards.

Quote:
Publishers submitted proposed textbooks this summer, but committees of Texas volunteer reviewers - some nominated by creationists who are current and former Board of Education members - raised objections. One argued that creationism based on biblical texts should be taught in science classes, while others objected that climate change wasn't as settled a scientific matter as some of the proposed books said.

AP News

As a citizen of the mentally challenged stated of Texas, I apologize to the rest of the country. I'm sorry and I just have to say I did not vote for a single one of these half wits.

If the religious right had their way, the earth would still be flat. I don't pay much attention to the stupid states of the south, but I always wonder how they explain the existance of "fossil" fuel.

As discussed many time before, the sheer size of Texas' educational book purchases for their schools leads to publishers "catering" to the Lone Star State's book reviewers. Since publishers don't sell just a "Texas Edition" other states wind up with the same books.

There have been expressions of this becoming part of history as more "e-books" find their way into the educational system, which would allow for a "Texas Only" edition to be easily distributed.

I have to wonder why. After all, if auto manufacturers had to make "California emissions" different from the rest of the nation I don't see why text book publishers couldn't print a "Texas" edition with a few extra words in it.

Some sort of disclaimer like "Warning, the state of Texas has determined that thinking is dangerous to your health" etc.

Well, let's see that Texas board allow the teaching different theories of creationism other than the Christian version . . . in science classes . . . that will be the test of who is tolerant of differing beliefs.

Mainly it has to do with their complete lack of comprehension of what the phrase "Separation of church and state" means. If they want to teach a class called "Alternatives to Rational Thinking" then I welcome them to teach whatever the hell they want. When the class is called "Science" then science is what needs to be taught regardless of whether that conflicts with what you choose to believe.

X2.

I've never known anyone who believed in creationism, what an odd thing to think like that.

I don't think it has much to do with the separation of religion and state. Most European countries don't have separation of church and state, yet they don't teach this nonsense in science classes. It's a failure to understand the difference between science and non-science. I bet you'd have a hard time finding a Catholic high school using a creationist text in a science class.

It's really a shame Tejas can't secede from the union as easily as Rick Perry thinks it can...
