Exclamation Hermann Göring's 9141 540K cabrio in America? (pic)

Wow!!! I'd love to see this 1941 car.... Last year year I in fact saw Heinrich Himmler's 1943 770K Grosser sedan in a museum in Germany (the Sinsheim one). That sinister looking black auto had a RED spotlight mounted to the driver's side A pillar, just like many American cop cars today in America.

If THAT lit you up, I'd guess you were as good as dead. Auf wiedersehen ...

Some of Goering's descendents live in the USA. Perhaps a DNA sample from the back seat and a comparison to them would be cheaper than Mercedes' historical analysis.

I am not sure I would like to own a car that the previous owner was historically so diseased. Given a choice I would preffer a car that to me does not carry any stigma.

Goering participated in a lot of bad things besides just being a potential junkie as well. Why he did not just stick to attempting to run the air force was a major misteak.

I have wondered what was said behind his back by his aircrews. It probably was less than flattering and became more so as the war progressed.

Nice car, to bad it belonged to fatso and not a good General or commander.

Reinhard Heydrich's car would be the one to have, wonder what happened to it?

He had more than one. A survivor is in the Military History museum in Prague.

Operation Anthropoid - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The actual 320B cabrio in which he was assassinated, I am not sure where it is though. That one I am sure, is the one which you are referring to...

Doubt it -- Himmler didn't have the courage to do his own dirty work.

His bodyguards and driver were probably armed and would take care of it right away.

One problem with establishing 'ownership' is that most of these cars were never titled to the individual they were assigned to. They belonged to the German Army or Air Force but were used by normally one person.

The six-wheeled Mercedes 'G' would be an example. Hitler loved these cars and was often filmed using them, but the cost was so high at DM 7,500 each the Nazi Party could not afford them. So Hitler saw to it that the Army ordered them and provided them to him.

Mercedes built the cars for the Army to begin with, but the Army balked at the price. Therefore Mercedes just waited until Der Fuehrer showed up at the factory to see something else and just let it slip that such a car existed. It was love at first sight and the Army wound up buying some anyway.

Hitler did have one G that was a parade car with a front passenger seat that folded out of the way so he could stand up and wave at the crowd, but Hitler himself never owned a car. It would be like saying the US President 'owned' the car the Secret Service provided for him.

One car that was titled to one specific Nazi. This armored car was built on the chassis of a 540K at Hitler's order for use by what were known as 'The Big Heads'. Out of seven (?) built this is the only survivor.

That is actually not totally clear;

The Reich Chancellery was by the Fuhrer bunker in Berlin, and Hitler had a small fleet of cars there in the Chancellery garage, in fact that was where the jerry cans of Petrol were fetched and then brought back to the garden outside the bunker and poured the fuel from them over Hitler's corpse to be burned. What was left was used to burn the bodies of Magda and Josef Goebbels..

Some of these Mercedes Benzes actually were reported being seen driven on the streets of Berlin during the first week of May 1945, but after that they were never seen again.

Almost certainly they were transported to the USSR, along with mountains of other war booty.

There is one other car with amazing provenance that is known.

It is a 540K cabrio that was given by Hitler to Stalin upon the signing of the nonaggression pact in August 1939, that had the secret protocol that set forth the division of Poland.

But Stalin considered the car decadent, and passed it undriven, on to one of his top Generals.

It was discovered in 1962, in the USSR, (I believe in Ukraine/Crimea) in the hands of the General's son, who a Swedish photographer went and talked to, and convinced him to let him buy it.

The Swede then managed to somehow to quietly export it to Sweden, where he then photographed it and made a book about it, which many years ago, I actually saw.

The 540K looked mint, absolutely fabulous, and had Swedish number plates fitted to it.

Upon learning of this, the Communists in Russia were outraged, but could do nothing, BUT immediately passed a vey strict law regarding export of classic vehicles so that it could never happen again.
