Do you have any data to back that up? Earlier in the thread I asked questions about such statistics and never got any answers. I never made any statements about whether it was or wasn't a factor either.

Larry, I was trying to joke about this a ways back, I'm guessing it had no effect on you. If you are really interested in an answer to your question, you could search for it yourself. I did just now:

I suspect that an accurate answer to your question is not available as pot use is more widespread than meth use and it would be hard to know if the general rebelliousness that could lead someone to use pot would have led them to try meth even if pot had not been available.

Here's a hint for you. If it has a D somewhere on the trunk lid, don't drive behind it.

There is no clear line of causation, despite some people's desire to see one.

An equally relevant question would be 'How many people end up smoking weed as a result of their meth addiction?'

The only common factor between them is that they are illegal drugs.
Do people who abuse prescription drugs have their start in smoking weed?
Is Rush a midnight toker?

One point that has been raised here, is that the two substances provide very different effects, so it would be hard to imagine that a user of weed would move to meth, as it would be a completely different result.

What might actually happen is that people who are bent on illegal activity will try both (and a host of other things) because they are illegal.

If one were truly interested in establishing a 'gateway' drug, then they need look no further than tobacco and alcohol. Research clearly shows that they are king.

With legalization of MJ spreading, more will turn to so-called “medibles” or edible forms of MJ as well as liquid forms. Many don’t smoke, no one should smoke, and the only reason smoking is broadly done for MJ is because the raw form of MJ is most easily and cheaply given to this form of consumption. That all changes as MJ can readily become a processed commodity....

I've had several bad experiences from edibles. Easy to imbibe too much. There is supposedly no lethal dose of pot but I experienced some dosage action that was way past what I wanted. Had me in misery for about 8 hours each time.

Smoking isn't good for you, I get it but it offers a pleasant, reliable way to regulate your experience.

A sincere and friendly suggestion. If your life is such that you need an escape, shouldn't you be seeking to solve the problem, rather than masking it with self medication?

Smoking, no matter how done, is not pleasant unless one does it regularly. The lungs just do not like to take in quantities of smoke unless conditioned to do so.

But you point out that the dosages needs to be noted so that the problem you mention can be avoided. In a similar way the potency of the base product also needs to be noted so that people who ingest will know about what they are consuming before they surprise themself. I’ve read that both issues are being worked on.

I think that a drinkable concoction would have about the same onset time period as does alcohol, and also fit perfectly into the current “bar” format of social consumption. Within a few years, my bet for mj to be produced with that kind of packaging and perhaps also optionally mixed with alcohol. Imagine for instance, something like a ckk – that is, coffee Kaluah and Kona. Personally I don’t like alcohol but there are those who do. Some people run home to mama, ya know….
