Favorite toy as a kid?

I had some biggies....bb gun, pedal tractor, Lincoln logs....but my all time favorite was my erector set. I had one then got a couple of more and spent hours and hours building things. The first thing I built came out of their book but after that everything came out of my mind.

I even built a front wheel drive truck with steerable wheels... and a cable crawling machine

Toy cars, all my life - over 60 years anyway.

My grandmother gave me my first toy car as a little boy.

Even back in 1953, just about every photo of me in a family album portrays me withy some type of toy car in my hand.

My future as a "car guy" was sealed for life!

Even today I still have a large collection. It includes about 100 1/25" scale models, "Promo" (Promotional) autos pre-painted at the factories seen sometimes at auto dealers to demonstrate what the colors actually looked like, that now and then would give them away to new car buyers. By the mid 1970s the practice had pretty much ceased, save for a few Corvettes and such..

I also have about a hundred little 1/43" Paul's Auto Art Mercedes Benz models, too, every single different w123,w124, R107, pagoda roof SL and w126 that I could get, along with a Ponton, Heckflosse, a couple of buses and trucks, and a lovely diorama with Chancellor Helmut Kohl, standing by his official w126 silver 560SEL. Many of these were acquired on ebay Germany over the last 15 years, one at a time.

In my family we had eight of us kids. Mom and Dad moved several times after I moved out and all my toys got thrown away or otherwise gone. The oldest possession I have is a trophy I won racing a quarter midget in about 1962 or 3. It has a walnut base with a gold plated (It looks like) quarter midget on top about 4" long.

Plasticine. I would build anything from houses to boats. Unfortunately, it wouldn't fare too well when wet...

Matchbox/Hotwheels and gasoline were a close 2nd. We couldn't get away with that in the house, though.

every year I wanted a new set of walkie talkies. In fact, I had a dream last night involving 2 way radios. Not sure why.
