epc net online

I am having trouble with pulling up the program after signing on.
I download Jave 5.0 as instructions said.
I keep getting this error:

An error occurred while launching/running the application.
Title: EWANAPI WebStart Applet
Vendor: Hewlett Packard GmbH
Category: Unexpected Error
Unexpected exception: java.lang.Exception

Does anyone reconize it and the solution?

Thanks for any help.

Do you have Java installed? What OS is your computer running?

Start by removing any and all editions of Java that are installed. Old editions tend to stay installed unless manually removed. Restart the computer after that. After the reboot, go to the java.com web site and go through the install process. After that, go through their verify install process. It only takes a few moments for the whole process. Let us know if the problem persists after that.

More importantly, what browser version?

The latest MS Internet Explorer versions are absolute crap. From 9 on up they just got worse and worse. I think 11 is getting installed automatically from MS Update. Lots of issues viewing website content.

I run an office network for about 30 people and most of them are using Google Chrome. I put Mozilla Firefox on mine some time ago and have now defaulted everything to it, just no problems viewing web content with it.

My recommendation would be to download and install either alternate browser and then try it. My bet is it will work fine.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I am pretty sure that browser does not have much to do with this. The EPC website starts a jnlp file download and then the user launches that file. I've had no problems using Chrome, Firefox or IE 9 (just launched it right now, came up no problem). Now maybe if you just do an "open" and then close the browser out..that would cause the temporary download file to be deleted..and then you might have an issue.

^ i agree that the newest editions of IE are pretty sucky. Most use them only when they are the only platform that supports some things, such as online correspondence with some banks and other financial institutions, and some platforms such as SharePoint, which take advantage of some IE related features.

Thanks for all the good suggestions.
I started on a PC at work also on my laptop at home.
64 bit
Windows 7
IE11 Browser
Java 7
I kept getting an error of could not connect.

I next tried an older machine at work:
Windows XP
IE browser 8
Java(Web start) very basic
It got all the way to downloading the applet and would stop.

Next computer:
Windows XP
IE browser 8
Java 7(deleted and reloaded Java 5)

Now I get the error I discussed first.

I see some people saying they are using Java 7.
Can you tell me what type of machine, system, and browser.

Again thanks for looking
Hope this extra information helps.

I just wanted to print the data card info.

Can you post a screen shot of the Java exception that occurs?

An error occurred while launching/running the application.
Title: EWANAPI WebStart Applet
Vendor: Hewlett Packard GmbH
Category: Unexpected Error
Unexpected exception: java.lang.Exception

I would like to see more of this..

I have been trying to post a screen shot.
It says my file is too large.
I am pressing the control and "v" key for paste.
I am unsure how to do this otherwise.

If you are in Windows XP, press the print screen button on your keyboard. Open up Paint and then hit paste.

If you are in Windows 7 the same should work I believe. Alternatively you can use the "Snipping Tool"

Then save your image and upload it to imgur: the simple image sharer. Imgur is a free image hosting website. Imgur will give you a link that you can paste here for us to see.
