Have an enemy? Wish for them to get kidney stones.

Kidney stones, are HELL.
What do kidney stones look like?
Kidney stones may be as small as a grain of sand or as large as a pearl. Some stones are even as big as golf balls. Stones may be smooth or jagged. They are usually yellow or brown.

Makes you tired all the time, can't sleep for the pain, don't laugh because it hurts to much, generally makes your life very poor.
For those who don't know about such things, here are some links.

My last stone was 10mm and shaped like a sand burr.

Had one a couple years ago. I learned that whenever you go to the ER, always tell the admitting nurse that your pain level is "11 out of 10" otherwise you'll be watching hours of CNN Headline News from a plastic waiting room chair while kids with the sniffles go in before you.

Had the pleasure of enduring one while away on a business trip.

It is said that the pain is a close as it gets to experiencing childbirth!

All I know is that it was the worse pain I have ever felt in my entire life!

I have seen them take their time to give people a shot, unfreaking real.

Piece a cake. Just a sharp gas pain that keeps getting worse than anything you can imagine for an hour or so. Once you get past the fear of immediate death in great pain the sweats abate and I've found just laying back and kicking your feet wildly helps. The damn thing must still be in my bladder or melted or something. The pain was from the kidney region so I guess it was just making it's first trip out of the garage. There's a ultra sound deal that will blow them up and turn them into sand. My water has a lot of calcium chloride in it and I'm wondering if that doesn't form them?
Greater pain includes a sinus blockage under pressure, getting a novacane shot in the Vase tube (if you must get a vasectomy – get completely knocked out first!) and the one that just don't quit – an inflamed joint – thank you god for cortisone shots and OD's.

Saw my original post from my "noob" kidney stone days...

...I've passed five more since then. Took six months for the most recent one to pass, and the day it did, I HEARD it hit the bowl when I pee'ed!

Asked a woman who experienced childbirth AND passing a stone...she emphatically stated that the stone was far worse! Course, I hear that women sometimes forget their labor pains...

More data

There are four basic treatments:

* Suffer through it = pass it naturally (if possible).
* Lithotripsy = ultrasound bath to break it up.
* Laser surgery = through the natural passage.
* Surgery = through your back.

Note:

Anyone who has suffered a severe kidney stone will tell you:
* MAKE the pain stop...
* You reach a point where death is desirable.
* NOTHING else matters...

If you have never experienced kidney stones, consider yourself lucky.
Those who have suffered from kidney stones report a searing pain, which begins suddenly when the stone is moved into a position in the urinary tract that causes the flow of urine to be blocked.
The sufferer will feel an immense sharp cramping pain in the back and side in the kidney area and/or in the lower abdomen.
A dizzy, queasy feeling may follow and some sufferers experience intense nausea and vomiting.
There is only one thing on their mind - kidney stone relief and as fast as possible.

My mother has had repeated bouts with kidney stones over the years. Last time around, about 10 years ago, they used the ultrasound method to break them up. Since then, she's been careful about what she eats and drinks - she's of the opinion that it's not just hard water, but overindulging too often in one's particular favorite food and beverages can help cause them as well. She hasn't had any trouble since. She may be on to something, as I've read this is one of the primary causes of gout as well - formation of crystalline deposits in the joints causing swelling and pain, because the body can't get rid of the stuff you're taking in fast enough.

For my part, as a teenager and in my early 20's, I had repeated occurrences of mild kidney infections - because I drank carbonated sodas all the time. After my first few years in the Navy, I lost my taste for sodas and to this day drink either coffee or water - and haven't had a problem since.

Another treatment that buddy of mine went through: they insert a device that is much like the 4 prong pick up tool we all use in the garage to retrieve tools we drop in unreachable places, up though the plumbing until they reach the stone. Extend the four little fingers and grasp the stone. They they hold the exit point with one hand and pull like heck on the tool until it and the stone exit the body where it should have come out on its own. Doesn't that sound like fun? And since we guys have a few more turns and valves in the plumbing, it is extra fun for us. I was ready to cry just from buddy describing what he went through.
Dad had a stone one time. I remember him pouring a nice big glass of straight whiskey and downing it before going to see the doctor for the stone. Afterwards, he warned me I should drinks lots of liquids, especially water. I still do 40 years later.
