The House approved H.R. 3964 to provide emergency drought relief California

This would supply desperately needed water and JOBS...

100% guarantee Democrats in the US senate will kill it, and blame republicans for doing nothing...

The House today approved legislation (H.R. 3964)

State of California and Stakeholders Oppose H.R. 3964

Quote:
On Wednesday, the House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on H.R. 3964 (Valadao). Like H.R. 1837 of 2011-2012, this bill would permanently preempt state law and weaken or eliminate protections for California’s rivers, salmon fishery, and Bay-Delta estuary. The bill also would repeal the court-approved settlement to restore the San Joaquin River and would permanently withdraw part of the Merced River from protections under the Wild & Scenic River Act.

Drought, not environmental laws, are restricting water supplies across the State this year. Waiving environmental protections won't make it rain, but in future years it will hurt thousands of fishing and Delta farming jobs that depend on these state and federal protections.

I hope you're right. I along with the vast majority of Californians want the Democrats kill this bill. Its why we elected them to office.

canal

They can just build a canal from Michigan to California. Forget the rivers, dont let a drop reach the ocean. All that water is wasted.
Wait its raining. Spring is not over yet. Next year it could flood. Its been about 8 years since it has. Its on a ten year flood cycle. Plus or minus a year or so.

Republican lawmakers claim to want a smaller role of the federal government, and for more control to take place at the state and local level. And yet all too frequently, they stray from this central premise.

The Repos buy votes their way, the Demos buy votes their way.

If we like the bait of one party or the other then we believe that party has the moral high ground and the other party are a bunch of psychopathic opportunists.

Most of the water in California is used for agriculture, I think about 85% is the figure I read, and most of THAT is for corporate agribusiness.

It's been raining and snowing here today, but there has been practically no rain here for a long time.

The snowmelt in Nor Cal has been insignificant this season in this state.

Due to political clout, most of the water goes to Southern California via the peripheral canal.

For Northern California, rationing of water this year is on the near horizon. The upcoming restrictions will penalize those that conserved water in the past, and likely will result in higher water rates for ALL residential consumers.

Please don't give the mayor of Chicago anymore ideas on how to get out of the mess all of those crook Dems have themselves in now. Or for that matter I hope one of B'O's fundraisers isn't in the rain barrel business, and get a hand out like Solyndra.

Twenty years ago or more there was a terrible drought in California. I remember every hotel had signs up saying not to waste water. Conservative was everywhere.

And this lasted for seven years. A lot of plans were made for water in the future, but just as they were getting going they seemed to die out.

And then the Governator took over and everything was wonderful.

The End.

At least we have green golf courses. Those are drought restriction exempt along with agriculture.
Do you think they are letting it "mellow yellow" at the golf courses. I can just imagine gov. Brown or Sen. Feinstein doing that. Yea right.

Just for fun, check out this link:

NASA images

The image comparison is nifty.

While I do think conservation is a good idea, I'm not big on some of the methods. As one poster mentioned earlier, the new programs often have the effect of penalizing those who have been conserving all along. They look for a percentage reduction, and don't take into account prior usage. So if someone was using twice as much water as a normal 3 bedroom 2 bath home before, but cut their usage by 25%, they'd be considered good. But if someone was already using only 80% as much as normal, but was only able to trim another 5%, they're not as good. Even though one house is still using 150% of the norm, as opposed to 75%.
