As far as the G-series go, the interior wears pretty badly. Like the S4, I have a few friends, coworkers with G35/37s and the interior materials are disappointing IMO. I find the ride to be a bit harsh and the engine unrefined when I test drove them too.

I think the "horror stories" that people talk about with Audis in this thread are WELL overblown. The 2.0 TSI/TFSI engine is one of the best in the business, and the 3.0 is excellent as well, despite the guy who insists there are timing issues (ahem, 4.2...that's the one I'd stay away from, but fixed by the 3.0). That said, I got rid of my VW because of little things that were slightly alarming.

I have heard the TSI 2.0 engine eats turbos and cracks its PLASTIC intake manifold all the time....tons of reports of issues with that engine in the VW Tiguans....

The intake manifold is the only known problem I know of, seems like less than 1% of the cars as well. Have not heard of it "eating turbos" at all, lots of mk6 guys running k04 or stage 2+ with no problems at all.

The intake manifold issue is not cheap however if it does fail out of warranty... $$$

It can be, yes. From what I can tell it seems like most of the time this manifests itself early in the car's life.

I'm just wondering what people who "hear" lots of things about certain engines and cars suggest? Sometimes this forum really does bug me with its fanboism. I feel iffy just talking about my close friends who have experiences with these particular cars, not even something I read on the internet by casually cruising a forum. Hell, by this place's standards every VW would have burned to the ground by now, and none would be the wiser. This is something I've noticed for a very long time, and I don't mean to direct it to you PawoSD, this is just a general observation. My BMW has been very problematic but its far from a representative example.

the VQ35 is a pretty stout motor - and responds well to mods.

Early models has problems with oil consumption, but later models seem to have those issues sorted out.

You know... That VQ35 with RWD makes for good fun when clutch-kicking. (if you're into that sort of thing)

I'll second the Avalon. We have a 2008 Toyota Sienna (same drivetrain, 3.5 L V6/5-speed automatic). We bought it used with 30k on it in 2009 and already have 112k on it. It's been terrific. The 266 HP V6 propels the 4200 lb. car to 60 MPH in 7.0 seconds and turns just 2100 RPM at 75 MPH, making it very suited for the highway. In terms of maintenance items, the tranny fluid is lifetime, but I figure I'll change it this summer anyway; spark plugs are done every 120k, and oil changes aren't too bad, though not the most relaxing ever, either . The engine is very smooth and has a slightly deep note to it that makes it sound just a bit manly under the right amount of acceleration .

I'd say my biggest complaints with VW is with their service dept. Customer service is about their #10 priority. #1 is money bleeding. They even tried to quote/charge me over $205 to replace a single tire on my VW when I had it. And whenever something with the car goes wrong, they try to blame you, or make it seem like its your fault, very condescending/rude. Maybe some dealers are better, but from what I have seen online and experienced myself, it seems to hold true. Ironically right in the same service area, at the MB counter, I got much better service, even on an old car I did not buy from them.

I guess the moral of the story is never buy new, and never go to shops or dealers.

Jeez, you hate everything about VW... Build quality, the car itself, their engineering, and their dealerships...

Someone is starting to sound a bit like a fan-boy of another brand! (I was that way at one point... Friend opened my eyes to a whole world of awesome outside of the 3-pointed star)

Now, I am after one of these...

^ I'd love to grab a CTS-V but my budget doesn't allow for the second gen. The first-gens are getting pretty cheap but they are pretty ugly IMO. Did not age well.

Good choice . What year? Is it the 6-speed auto?

I know a lot of people whose 2.0Ts consume oil through the turbo but they also adhered to the 10,000 mile oil change intervals. My girlfriend as well as two friends with chipped 2.0Ts changed their oil every 5k and don't use a drop between changes.

I agree about the "fanboy ism" there is a lot of "I heard they are junk" being repeated 6th hand. See the ford 6.0L thread lol. People who actually own said vehicle post and people disregard it because it goes against the commonly held convention, held by people with no first hand experience.
