Pilot of delayed plane buys pizza for everyone.

What a nice gesture....

Pilot of delayed flight buys pizza for whole plane

Ritchie confirmed that it was the pilot who paid by credit card for the order, which was several hundred dollars, though he could not specify whose card it was.
Wait till we find out whose card it was on before we shout for joy, shall we?

Admirable by the pilot. Frontier is the airline that has low fares, but it also charges $20 for the first checked bag and then $20-$50 for use of the overhead storage for carry-on items. They have a 72% "on time" rating on their busiest routes.

(F9) Frontier Airlines On-Time Performance Rating

Not meaningless if the pilot was acting as an agent of the airline. Empowering employees to immediately address an adverse customer experience, without having to consult management, is what builds customer appreciation and hopefully loyalty. The worst thing you can do is "I'll check if my manager says it's okay" instead of "Here's what we'll do to make it up to you."

I don't disagree with what you wrote. My point is that it is not the pilot's generosity but a directive from the company or a certain amount of discretionary funds given to him. OTOH, if it finally came out of his pocket, he is an admirable person. So yes, before I simply say "Good Captain", I need to know who pays for it. It might be "Good Airline".

Some of us are old enough to remember back in the day the airlines served meals on long flights. Granted, it wasn't always the greatest food, but at least nobody starved. Today's budget conscious airlines throw a bag of peanuts and one soft drink at you and call it good. Because there is no real food passengers may become grumpy when faced with delays.

In the instant matter, I would hope that if the Pilot paid for the pizzas out of hip national bank, Frontier will have the good sense to reimburse him. His statement to the passengers was correct; airlines really are "cheap".

Oh, I didn't realize you were flexible on the word "meaningless."

I was on a long flight and they did serve meals. Obviously, it wasn't free food and it was tacked onto your ticket. Passengers who don't know how to get food for themselves need the pangs of hunger to teach them.

Considering this publicity it got him, I have no doubt and neither should the pilot. Might be why he did it. And yes, airlines are cheap because they have to be when dealing with cheap customers who price shop

How so? If he splurges on the company card, it is meaningless. It is only meaningful, as far as our opinion of the pilot is concerned if it came out of his own pocket and isn't reimbursable.

One thing for sure, "some" airlines tend to go cheap where they shouldn't: Aircraft maintenance. I recently spoke with a licensed A&P mechanic who told me stories that would make anyone think twice about ever boarding another commercial aircraft. The information he shared was SCARY.

I make no apologies for being cynical. Seen enough of what people do to dare to imagine otherwise
